Hitec Zebra
« on: December 07, 2006, 11:47:42 am »

A good friend of mine recently bought a Hitec Zebra FM Tx/Rx set. The transmitter doesn't work, when he complained to the retailer he bought it from he said he had never heard of anyone complaining about the set. I think after a long discussion  my friend is going to get a replacement. I was thinking about getting one of these sets, but I have heard that they are not compatable with any Futaba or Webra receivers or servos. My friend might be unlucky but has anyone else had any problems with these new cheep sets?

Daryl

I bought one a couple of months ago as it was cheapest four channel FM (Micro Tx/Micro Rx) set I could get and I haven't had any problems with it yet (touch wood).

I obtained my "ZEBRA" 3ch outfit off of one of my club mates. He bought it at the Weymouth model boat show but can't remember who from. Well the transmitter is playing up, so i opened up the case only to find that one of the "IF" coils is getting very very hot. So i am forced to buy a new one.

Hi helmsman,
The two dealers who werre selling Hitec Zebra were SHG Models and Hunter Systems. My friend has I beleive got a replacement but is less than happy with Hitecs quality control. Full marks to Hunter Systems who replaced it very promptly, I have allways found Hunters Sytems very helpful, my freind also bought his at Weymouth.

Hope this helps

Hi Helmsman,
I am sure if your friend can remember who he bought it from they will exhange it. I have found both SHG and Hunters very good to deal with.

Good Luck I will be interested to hear how you get on.

Hi Daryl
My friend could not find the receipt for the "Hitec Zebra", so i sent to Hows and purchased a new transmitter. They had sold out of the "Zebra Tx" so i bought the Hitec "Ranger 3".(works well with the Zebra Rx) Thinking what have i to lose i opened up the "Zebra Tx" to see if i could find the fault. Inside, the transmitter has two printed circuit boards, one about 4mm higher than than the other. They are joined together with three soldered binding posts that also serve as connections between the two boards. Well the transmitter must have had very a hard knock because i found that the copper tracks on the upper Pc board were cracked giving a make and break fault. I then soldered three link wires bridging the breaks in the tracks. Now the transmitter is working 100%. I had to use a magnifying glass to find the fault as the movement was so small. I do hope that this helps others with the same problem.

 ;)Hi Guys

Ref  Hitec  Zebra Sets  if you have carry out servo reverse on these sets  you will find that you move the small plug  at the rear of the set to the correct postion then turn off the set  turn back on and the servo will be in the reverse mode of operation. The instruction sheet supplied doe!s not mention this. I think that the servo reverse on the ranger 3 laser 4/6 is far better.

Futaba crystals are reputedly not compatable with Hitec gear.   Pete M

Thanks Petem,   never gave that a thought, I looked at the crystals and although two of them were Futaba the others were Hitec, funny thing is the Ranger 3 reciever  and tranny  will not work  with the original Zebra crystals ????????????    bigH
