New Brighton relocation???
« on: February 02, 2010, 12:52:29 am »

I was in New Brighton (Wirral) tonight, although it was dark, it would appear that the bulldozers have arrived as most of the waterfront was fenced off, including the boating lake, which has been there for many a year. I was wondering if any of the New Brighton club officials had been in consultation with the developers or Wirral council about a relocation of the boating lake, and was any input given regarding the size etc?
I only hope the redevlopers dont decide that a kiddies paddling pool, filled only in summer months, would actually provide a better alternative to a model boating lake that in their eyes could be an under used cost? During summer weekends the seafront is packed with day trippers, and all the talk of new facilities might leave the model boat fraternity without a facility, given there is now a  new lake at Hoylake only a couple of miles up the coast.
If rumours are correct, the neighbouring marine lake that was used occassionally for watersport is to be filled in, as a possible carpark for a supermarket/shopping centre, like we need another!! >:-o
Lets hope that the boating lake is not forgotten, can I have a nice big one, raised sides again, and something in it to get rid of those damned swans!!!! :-))

The new boating lake will be built after the rip every thing up, its something to do with the money, so instead of building a new lake and then removing the old one,  there's a deadline of March, so as i said they have to do all the work as one job, as for the new lake it should be the same size, but i think you can forget about having a lake to use there this year!      but hey lets not forget there's one in Hoylake now!
