scale difference...
« on: February 14, 2010, 04:05:24 pm »

Is there a great deal of difference between 1/60th scale and 1/72nd scale fittings? Or to rephrase that, would 1/72nd scale fittings look out of scale on a 1/60th scale boat? I can't seem to find any 1/60th scale fittings anywhere.

In 1:72 scale a six foot man would be an inch high.

An inch high man in 1:60 scale would be five foot.

Therefore a 1:72 scale item will be 5/6 the size of a 1:60 scale, quite a difference. :-))

The only fittings where you will notice a serious difference is those fittings that scale against a person, and that where there is a figure involved.  Using 1:72 instead of 1:60, the parts will just look a little "dainty".  Figures would probably just pass off as humans of smaller stature.  Overdo it, and, of course, the boat will look like it has been hijacked by a visiting school trip party.  If you try to go the other way, whatever you fix the fittings to will look overcrowded and heavy, figures would look like a race of giants.
Just dont go finding 1:60 bits and mix them in.........

Hmm...well, at least I don't have to worry about figures, they'd end up rather wet and possibly drowned.    :((

It's deck fittings I'm thinking about...a deck cannon, AA guns, bollards, etc. Maybe I can use the excuse that the Kriegsmarine were running short of metal and made the guns a wee bit smaller....
