Fantasy fleet...
« on: February 20, 2010, 07:01:35 pm »

Fantasy fleet, is your or would you like?

I'll start...

Robbe seagoing Happy Hunter tug - ( I own one but it needs a complete engine room refit, ebay)
an early British diesel tug,
a Caldercraft Riverman (great for keeping in the boot of me mota),
a large TID tug ( ggeorge's will do nicely! ),
a dozen large barges,
a Thames Slipper launch,
a very scale Riva Aquarama
a Type Vii German submarine,
a deep V offshore boat with a insane brushless setup.
a nice RAF crash tender ( one like HS93's )
a brace of Springers,

..... and a partridge in a pair tree.

( Ask me tomorrow and it will be a different list )   :-)

HMS Liverpool Type 42
HMS Lancaster Type 23
HMS Antelope Type 21
HMS Clyde or HMS Cottesmore
Tamar Lifeboat Speedline pref for size or MSW version for practicality
HMRCC Sentinel

Hmmmmm. Just realised, most of them are 'grey'! Maybe my painting skills influence my decisions!?

Huge Vic Smeed design such as Lorelei or Vivacity with an Edgar Westbury petrol multicylinder in it.

Genius squared!

I forgot, I'd love a really nice period radio set to go in it. There'd be plenty of room for it!

Mine would probably be:

Predreadnought-era battleship or cruiser in 1/96 or larger (e.g Dean's HMS Majestic or Skirmisher)
Fairmile B/D, Grey Goose or other large WW2 Coastal Forces craft in about 1/32
WW2 or inter-war destroyer in 1/72 or larger
1900s river steam launch with working steam plant
Passenger paddle steamer (e.g Medway Queen, Waverley)
Scale sailing model of a schooner, ketch or small square-rigger

Thanks to a lucky car boot sale find last year, I already have no.3 in my list (1/64 scale V&W class) and hope to make a start on it before the end of the year, but the others will have to remain on the "some day..." list until I have a lot more money and space!

Here is my 2p worth..

My fleet would be made up from Boats I wanted as a kid, boats I have travelled on and boats I or my family have worked on and new stuff I like the look of, so.....

No 1 - Under construction at the moment...
Graupner Bugsier 3 - Always wanted this a s a kid, as I did with..

No 2 Graupner WP LÖSCHKREUZER WESER "CLASSIC LINE" - Nice Fireboat that my 2 boys will enjoy using to get Daddy nice and wet!!!!

No 3 LOYAL CLASS FLEET TENDER - Travelled on a couple of these in Portsmouth Dockyard during my time with the MOD. Will probably build A161

No 4 HMS Endurance - The Ice Patrol Ship - Old friend of mine was the chef on board.

No 5 RFA Grey Rover - Many a happy day spent of this one.

No 6 HMS Blake - My Brother-in-Law served on this ship

No 7 Dean's Marine U.S. Coast Guard Island Class 1308 Launch - Love the look of this one.

The Blake would have to be a long term project along with Grey Rover as my building skills need to be renewed and improved. I am returning to the hobby after a 30 year break and have decided to start with a Bugsier, as it is reasonably straight forward.

I will probably add to the list and I aim to make my fantasy fleet as real as I can in the coming years.

1/48 HMS Abercrombie (1942) - Finally starting on this one, after waiting since 1989 for a body plan to work from! Thank heaven for the NMM..
1/48 Tribal class destroyer (Paul, any chance of a Sirmar twin 4.7" mount?) in a Disruptive camouflage scheme
1/96 HMS Rodney

NON-Fantasy Fleet, but happy with it:

(From left to right)

1:96 R/C HMS ESKIMO (served on board 1974-76)
1:96 R/C HMS CAVALIER (served on board 1969-72).
1:72 R/C HMS TEAZER (served on board 1958-59)
1:72 R/C HMS UNDAUNTED (served on board 1962-64)
1:72 R/C HMS PRETORIA CASTLE (young passenger 1948 as SS WARWICK CASTLE, Capetown to Southampton).
1:72 R/C HMS RODNEY (no affiliation).

OK, all 'grey funnel line', but representative of the ten war canoes that I served on, 1957-1982. %)

im sure many of us could wish for a full sized boat we could operate , instead of which we choose the more practical route of making models of our favourite craft . my models are all 1inch to the foot scale ;- aerokits sea rover ( under rebuild ) a fairey huntsman 28 , huntsman 31 aft cabin still being built , a fairey spear ( twin brushless ) still being built !
