Please excuse me for poking my nose in, but what are these particular collets used for?  :embarrassed: I'm only aware of the type used in lathes / dremels etc. All part of the learning curve :-))

Tony, I'm not using commercially available couplings on the shafts, I'm using two lengths of plastic tubing as couplings. The two motors are relatively low powered and are only running off a 4.8volt battery pack, so I'll not be worrying about high revs and coupling slippage with this set up. I often use plastic tube as couplings and never had a problem yet.

As regards end float in the shafts, I always guesstimate mine.....just a tad of play at both ends of the shaft is normally fine. Just enough play that you can feel...

Im building my first attempt at a

Im building a fifie Amaranth and need to couple
a 385 motor  2.3mm to a 2mm propshaft
Would a plastic tube do the job instead of
a uv joint and couplings?

I use either plastic air line as used in fish tanks or common or garden silicone tubing as used in model boat motor watercooling, never let me down yet. Just a showing of superglue  will hold the tubing securely, and if you have to remove it at any time, just run a very sharp craft knife over it and it peels away easily.
