Another Robbe question
« on: October 30, 2010, 06:30:19 pm »

I've dug my Robbe Sea Jet out after using it twice only, for a run at the club tomorrow.
The bumf says it uses 7 cell batteries, fine because that's what I put in it last time and have 2 fully charged up, my question is.....
Does anyone know what rating the motor itself is? I've Googled till I'm blind but can only find the standard blurb on every site and I want to know what would happen if I utilised a 3 cell Lipo? In other words is the motor rated up to 12v .....hopefully?
Thanks

 Hi Nige.
I have made up a 9.6v C cell pack for mine and it goes like the proverbial off a shovel.  The pack is made into an L shape to fit in the battery box.  I have a line of 6cells then the other two on top piggy back style.  The space left above the other three cells is where the receiver pack goes.  I have the cells standing up so they all fit in the battery holder in the hull bottom.

I too though that the 7.2v was a bit p i s s poor on the speed so I quartered up the voltage.  I think 12vs may be pushing it abit without cooling on the motor casing.  How I look at it is your motor will always take a 1/4more voltage with out getting burned out so
1/2 6v = 3v..=9.6v  a 9.6v I would put 12v on with out cooling.   On 9.6v I can spin mine on a sixpence when the cells are fresh.

you may want to look at brushless as that seems to be where the high speed stuff is at these days but then it all comes down to ££ at the end of the day. Personally for a fun item I am happy with what mine does and I have got the ballast perfect for the performance.

                                           cheers frank

That's great Frank, thanks!
I can imagine the 6 cells lying flat, as per a normal race pack, then another 2 lying on top, but you say you have yours standing upright?  Any chance of a pic?
Thanks
