Cheddar Steam Club Open Weekend
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:29:11 am »

I just thought I'd let you know that Cheddar Steam Club have an open weekend coming up on the 10th and 11th April.

I know most of you are too far away to visit, but JIC the 'locals' fancy a day out.

I will probably be there on Saturday, but that all depends on the weather, as I am a fair weather sailor  :D

Trying frantically to get my boat ready by then but it will be close. Weather looks fair/good according to the Met. Hope to see you there....  :-))

I know the feeling. I have had a tug under 'refit' for six weeks, suddenly there is an urgency to the work and I have spent most of the BH weekend doing those 'finishing jobs' like...fitting a steam plant!

It's always worth a visit, with or without a boat or train.

Not got a steamer, but have always enjoyed visiting your lake, so if you've organised the weather correctly, and SWMBO gives her permission, there's a good chance I could be there, with electric powered and/or wind powered boats! Thanks for the heads-up.

Not my lake Danny.  {-)

I was Chairman of the club at one time, but I haven't been a member there for quite a few years, I'm planning on rejoining this summer, if time allows.

All things being equal I'll have both the Antheo and the Thunderer tugs with me...oh and my camera of course  :-))

If you know where the rugby club is, close to the Wedmore end of the reservoir, it is just to the left of both the club and res.

It is on the site of what was the Cheddar Models factory. CM are long gone, but the club is still puffing along.

Just the day for a gentle pootle round the lake and a gossip then!    Sorry I'll not be able to get down there this  year.  I used to be a member when I lived in South Wales.

Have a great day.

Cheers

Had a fun day today. The weather has been fantastic and I am actually sun burnt.

Met Benjaml1 and he had a sail with my Thunderer tug, but did not like my Tx much as he's used to steering wheel style. Also nice to chat with Iain Holland, who I have not seen in four or five years.

Reasonable turn out and a nice variety of boats.

One MEGA bargain was an Imara kit, started and up to deck level, complete with unrun V4 Pegasus engine and Proteus boiler, big gas tank and big condenser. The whole thing sold for £450.

Good day and nice to sit down after a whole day walking around looking at models, chatting and sailing.

Just got back after spending a lovely afternoon with the Cheddar club. Spoke to quite a few, rescued two boats with my pusher tug, saw Gus, Iain Holland and David Semper , all in all a good day out. Many thanks to the Cheddar club for hosting it, and getting the weather right too!!! :-)) O0 :-))

I took a few, not as many as I wanted but you can't sail, chat / drink coffee AND take photos.

Not too good on posting pictures though, anyone want to offer some assistance?

Thank you.

The Clyde Puffer is scratch built in steel. It has a Cheddar Kompact plant fitted and although it rolled a little in a turn, it had a much more scale look about it than many of the kit built puffers, that tend to 'bob' on the water rather like corks.

There were quite a few scratch build boats there, including a really nice looking launch with a Gemini engine and Proteus boiler...which I forgot to photograph  :embarrassed:

Time to bump this up.

The next Cheddar Steam Club open weekend is on it's way.

May 29th and 30th.

I shall be there on Saturday, I might take the BIG TUG as a display piece and get busy with the camera, although, it would be nice to run the Antheo some more, as it only got one run at the last event, too busy playing with the new toy.

Come along if you're in the area, with a boat, train or just a camera.

Weather forecast for tomorrow is pretty poor, but I'll be there with boat and camera (and raincoat).

Sunday is better weather wise, but I am due in Cirencester.

Have a good weekend.

Had a lovely day, thanks to ALL for their hospitality.... :-))

I would especially like to thank Mr Anthony Lacey for goading me into conducting my maiden voyage amongst the massed crowds. I was a little nervous at first, it being my first steam model but everyone laid my fears to rest, made me very welcome with some excellent advice... :-))
