Some 2nd hand model boats for repair
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:05:10 pm »

Via email to Mayhem...

Good Evening

I would be very grateful if you could help / advise on the
following...

I’ve recently just bought some 2nd hand model boats for repair with
the intention of introducing my 3 young sons into model boating.  I
have very basic experience, but this was all early 90’s & very minimal.

Would you happen to know what the 4 enclosed boats are called?

Where I could possibly get spares from?

I believe the motors ( 1 missing are all Graupner 700 8.4) what type
of battery would I need.  I used to run 10th Scale RC cars but these
were all 7.2v

Would all the radio gear be 2 channel? Basic servo’s + receiver but
with the need for an electronic speed controller (in all my cars I used
to run manual one’s)

Any help would be much appreciated...

If these pictures are too low in quality please asdvise & I’ll 4ward
higher resolutions... thanks, Paul

Very nice boats, have you got a Club near you? that would be the best bet, Model Shops can get Iffy about giving advice on articles not bought from them! Quite rightly I suppose. One thing though, they all look seriously FAST!! So you will need lots of room to Test run them. good luck, and I hope you get them going. Do one at a time, I would suggest the Monohull first, not so challengeing as the Cats and Hydroplane.

Lots of questions and lots of possible answers. They all look like converted 'ready to run' boats to me and as they are fitted with 700 turbos they will have used 12 sub-C cells or possibly even 4 cell lipo packs. I doubt you will get spares for them now. Good advice from Nordsee to start with one boat first and see how it goes.
Cheers,
Ian.

PS. If your chldren are young then 12 cells will be just a tad fast for them.

The top one is a Dateline Cherokee Cheif, on which the batteries are mounted on the wrong side... The second one is a Graupner Dragstar. I'd be prepared to stick my neck out and say none of them are RTR hulls.

They all have external kill wires so at some time these have been raced and will be quick.
