R/C Marine Simulator for pc (Which was it?)
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:35:37 pm »

Guys,

At the Brighton model fair in February there was a model boat stall running a simulator for kids where they could have a go at 'playing' with model boats. Using a TX to control it which I beleive was modified from a R/C Flightsim interface.

I asked the guy manning the stall what the program was but he didn't know as the other guy had gone off for a break, I meant to ask on the way out but left another way.

I'm pretty good with recognising most sims as I've spent a life developing for them but this one I've never seen before.

Any ideas what it might be?

Well I think I've found it.

However I fear it was nothing like I was looking for :(

Looks like a 'damp' car race.

The stand you saw the game on was manned by the Southwater Dabblers Model Boat Club, each year we try to put something on for the kids, we have had mini subs in a fish tank, mini boat steering regatta in a paddelling pool, cardboard model boats for the children to take home and build and this computer game which was being run for the second time. We took the best times each day for two different age groups and presented the fastest in each group each day with a trophy. The game put on for the children was RC Boat Challenge SPECIAL EDITION, it's by Green Label and if you cannot find it in shops there is a contact address PO Box 62, St. ves, Cambridgeshire PE27 4YR, UK
I hope this answers your question and gives you a little insite to our club activities.

Thanks Alan (and Martin for posting that link)

I saw several kids really enjoying their time on it at the show and if it gives them an incentive to start the hobby then good to the club for putting in the effort! Far too many stalls are anti-youngster and its the same in many model related hobbies, hopefully one day the old men that run such stands will realise there'll be nobody left to man their dusty old layouts and displays if they continue in such ways.

Well done Southwater Dabblers!
