hi can i put car spray on top of acrylic paint? have just painted the deck of my perkasa in acrylic, after three brushed coats it looks horrendus thought i might pop down to halfords and get some car spray they do the right colour and rubb down the acrylic and spray over the top with the car paint can i ?

modern car paints are Acrylic...  they stopped using celulose(that would react) several years ago


just "try it on a small discret area first"  as they say in the instructions :-))

put light thin coats on leaving each one to dry this will allow the solvent to evaporate away and not soak into the paint underneath

Not any more they aren't, but the solvents in acrylic spray cans are not all the same and can react with existing finishes so it is essential that you check first!

most modern touch up paints are acrlic , but there are differences between different manufacturers of the product ! ive always found the hycote brand to be very good , as said before test a small area first . if you have a reaction thteere is an isolator paint availible through the automotive refinishing trade by the name of barcoat  this needs to be sprayed onto the old / reacting paint  before you can repaint . any  problems please ask as i trained in automotive refinishing .

hi sprayed the deck with the car paint went on good except in one place were it crinkled up so rubbed it down and started again waiting for it to dry properly hopefully it will be fine
