Water getting into propshaft
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:07:22 pm »

Hi guys,
I maiden'd my Li-Po Pursuit brushless boat at the weekend and when I bought it back in and un-taped the hatch, there was a cup-full of water in it swishing about.
I bath tested it just and found that the water was dribbling in from the prop-shaft. It is a flexi-drive in a teflon stuffing tube inside a brass tube. If I stuff it with grease, will this stop the water ingress or is there a more suitable approach?
Thanks

Thin oil or grease should do the trick.

oil the shaft, it will help stem the flow , grease loads the motor too much ! !

Slip a piece of silicon fuel line half over the brass where the flex comes out. It can be right up against the motor coupler and then slide it back up the brass when you need to undo the coupler.
It keeps my UL-1 dry as a bone. I can probably dig up a picture if you need it.
Keep your shafts well lubed they rust from the inside out.
I use Aquacraft Grimracer grease but any marine or trailer grease should be fine.
In my nitro boats I store the shafts in a tube full of 50/50 air tool oil and automatic transmission fluid between races.

OK guys,
Thanks for the help and links. I've just had it to bits and bath tested it again, not a drop  :-)) All I have to do now is try to devise a way of sealing the hatch instead of using cellotape all the time  {-)
