Hi Bunkerbarge,

I guess my only questions at the moment would be regarding tx/rx and lipo's and chargers.

I've been looking at a 'Planet 5 2.4Ghz' radio set! Anyone heard of these?
And the joysway recommened a 11.1v 3 cell 2500mah Lipo.. this might sound silloy, but what difference does putting a bigger/smaller battery make? I assume it's just running time?
Places to play.. any recommendations for places to play in and around northants?

It's early isn't it!!

Wellcome Brav0

Can not help you batteries etc, no my area I'm afraid, however Wicksteed park must be close to you, so why not drop over for the Mayhem weekend at Wicksteed (see events section), bring a boat, yourself and any questions you have, you will get an answer, and have a fun time boating too  :-))

Welcome aboard the mad ship Mayhem Daniel!
I'm just down the road here in sunny Peterborough.

The Planet 2.4 is very popular so no worries there.

"Joyways",is this them/ - http://www.joysway-hobby.com/

"... what difference does putting a bigger/smaller battery make? I assume it's just running time?" - yes that basically correct but weight sometimes comes into it.
There is a lot of debate about the quality of Lipo batteries... especially from a certain very large Asian country, available on large auction websites! I'm told, shop by brand.

Hi,
The Planet 2.4ghz is excellent value for money, a lot of our club members use them, I have a very similar one from Esky. 5 star*****
I have the Joysway Warrior mono hull......
I hope you have somewhere BIG to take it  :} :} It goes like a screaming demon from hell and can be out of sight within a few seconds, as I proved on my first outing with it when our lake was half frozen over a few months back......the sun blinded me and my little boat ended up 50 yards onto the ice pack...

Advice: The recommended lipo is HEAVY, the boats lists to one side but is fine when on the plane. I have just bought 2 1800mah lipos which are half the weight, I'll be testing them tomorrow morning  :-))

Hi Nige!

That's good to hear! I'm currently looking at your Esky, It looks much nicer, more my taste! Hehe.
Wow, that sounds promising! I've heard people say it's fast, but you make it sound crazy!!!

When you say '2 1800mah' does that mean 2 cell or 2 x?

Hehe, excuse my 'newbness'!

I mean I bought 2 batteries  :-) I like having a spare ready to go in when the first one runs down. Apart from that, the postage is usually combined if you buy more than one from HK or China.
You will not be disappointed with either the Planet or the Joysway Warrior. In fact, one of our club members was so impressed with the speed of mine, he has just this morning taken delivery from HK of the red and white Catamaran version, which should be at the lake tomorrow. I think they call it the Sea Rider?
Here are a couple of photos of mine.

You can see the difference in size between the batteries  :-))

Hi

That's a fine example! I was tempted by the cat version! But I think I'm going to go with the mono hill in black!

There is a large difference in size! So you would recommened getting a 1800mah?

Is there a device that tells you. when battery is low? So you can get your boat back in!

Thanks,
I also took off all the 'factory fitted decals' decals and made my own, as I do for most of my boats, in my opinion they look better  :-)
Usually you will notice a drop in power when going full blast, then is the time to point the nose towards you and bring it in. I'm not too sure whether the ESC has a low power cut off, I can't remember.....old age creeping in.  8)
Last time at the lake with the bigger boat you can see in the photo, I only used 1 battery the whole session, I just had a few minutes of fast action, then let it ride the waves for a while then had another go to stop it grounding.

I'm only going to use the 1800mah batteries because I don't like to see the little boat listing to port when sitting in the water, the lower weight might even add a little more speed.........hee hee. By the way, stick to 11.1v 3 cell lipo's, don't be tempted by putting a 4 cell one in, you will fry the ESC  :-))

I buy nearly everything off the auction site, there are loads available if you look  :-))

I do believe that some UK model shops are stocking the boats now, they also re-brand them as their own...Ripmax for example are one and I can think of at least another who sells them, the price is about £119 over here but slightly cheaper from Asia, but a longer wait.

Hehe, I'm not too fussed about having to wait!

I've found some places in the UK selling for £105 - £120.

Will check aunction sites! ;)

Yes, these are designed for RC flyers but are equally as good for boats

Planet & Esky radios are both good, as are these

You seem to have things sorted  :-))
Just to say that my Esky Tx is a different model to the one you have quoted and the receivers are different. HERE IS THE  LINK to one tha'ts for sale there, it's used but comes with 3 receivers!
So far I have bought 10 extra receivers as I like to have one per boat....those in your link look to be from a helicopter?
Also, that lipo charger for 3 quid.....hmmmm To be honest, I'd spend more money on a proper one if you can afford it, something like a B6 or a B5 lipo charger.

No one seems to have mentioned Giant Cod yet. Small importer - cuts prices to the bone. The kit is cheap and cheerful - incredibly cheap sometimes. His 4 channel 2.4Ghz Tx.Rx combo is probably the cheapest around at £26.68 +£3.39 postage, and extra receivers are only £10.54. Here is the link... http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gianitcod-24ghz-4channel-mode2-transmitter-p-403779.html

Those little balance chargers are adequate but I'd go for a proper one too

Right I've found this;

Looks ok, comes with a power adapter, most of them you had to buy seperate!

Hi all,

this might seem like a silly question.

I'd like to know what the restrictions are for dropping a bigger motor in. For example when i get my offshore warrior, could i just stick i bigger motor in?

I assume the answer is no, as other stuff would need to be modified?
