Using 1 ESC with Two Motors
« on: May 18, 2010, 08:45:11 pm »

Hi Guys

Is it possible to use 1 ESC with 2 motors and use a "Y" lead to control both
on 1 stick.

Yes I know I should use a mixer but will this work for now?

Yes as long as esc is big enough [amps]

If this is the two Deans Kondor motors, I have them in my Amethyst running off one 20amp Viper speed controller, no bother. :-))

Sorry.......one ESC with two motors is OK................but a Y-lead? You would only use a splitter/Y-lead if you had two ESCs from one Rx output.
I think you're after describing something like the top diagram here:

...but I may be wrong........

Hi All

Thanks for the replies.

I was getting ahead of myself after seeing a report in Marine Modelling mag,and
as usual I got it all wrong.

What I want to do is use 2 motors controlled by 1 ESC,the "Y" lead is of course for
use with 2 ESC.

Had a senior moment,sorry.

Alan,
There is a minor problem with this as each ESC will start at its own point.

The full speed should be the same but can effect low speed maneuvering.

yes, must be going dafter.
1 ESC will be fine as long as it can handle the combined current.

One esc sould work OK if they are brushed motors. Brushless motors would have a problem with a single esc as the motors may not both start in the correct direction.
