Can you Identify this hull?
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:03:00 pm »

Dear Martin,

Please could you move this post for me to the most relevant section or the one with the most knowledgable members!

Please could anyone identify this hull. Someone gave it to me to complete (!) a long while ago, but with no idea what it was. I have no idea either. Naval or Merchant, patrol or fishing?

It is 37.5 inches long, 8 inch beam and 4.5 inches moulded height, but I have no idea of the scale.

I look forward to your ideas, many thanks,

Chris

Hi, looks like a tug hull without the bulwarks on & possibly twin screw. I agree it would look better the right way up.              Nemesis

Thanks guys,
I'm away at Wickstead this weekend. I will put the "right way up" photo on the post when I get back.

Possible Confiance Class tug - Models by Design.

H.M.S. CONFIANCE
Scale: 1:48
Hull: 37.75 inch
Beam: 8 inch
Draft:

Royal Navy Tug.

HMS CONFIANCE was built by A.J.Inglis Ltd, Glasgow in 1955 for the Admiralty and gave its name to a class of Ocean going Royal Navy Tugs, powered by four Paxman HAXM diesels through twin shafts gave a speed of 13knots, although twin screw the class only had one rudder.

With the full-size plans supplied with our well detailed hull it is possible to build a very good looking model, at a scale of 1:48 many commercially available fittings can be purchased thus reducing construction time considerably. The model has a large hull for her size and makes a good regatta and heavy weather model, ideal as a first time tug for the beginner
