Hi Martin,

I exhibited on the Blackheath stand along with SteamboatPhil, Phil with his traditional straight runnners and an assortment of classic steam engines, and I with the experimetal boats "Vital Byte" and "Vital Thrust".

Phil appeared on the local London TV news answering questions about his boats and I was in the background explaining the in and outs of computer controlled flash boilers and the steam jet engine in "Vital Thrust"

Boats in general were well represented with the Cygnets club of Maidstone having a stand this year.

It is a very good place to get different ideas from the various visitors, many of which come from industrial backgrounds and have a good appreciation of steam plant and computers - I picked up some very good advice.

The chairman of the Steam Boat Association was very interested in my flash steam control system and, coincidentally, he owns a full size version of the Edwardian steam launch that I have the plans to make a model of.

Apart from the journey there and back, it was a most enjoyable three days.

Ian.

I concur with the above comments - an excellent show. A goodly number of models and trade stands. Enjoyed lunch with a chap from Nottingham, who told me his life history (which was very interesting but my baguette was getting cold) and a couple of chaps who'd come on a coach trip from Wales. Their only complaint was the lack of chips and the price of beer but they enjoyed Tony tt1's joke about drinking jet fuel.

Checked up on Phil's progress with his Puffer - the same as mine!

I agree with the previous comments, excellent show. I managed to obtain 10 metres of neoprene strip and should have purchased a roll of rubber for sub seals. However, having enjoyed a slap up meal in the bowels of the palace, one found oneself a tad short of the old cash!! Also helps being a tightwad :-))

Anyway, why is it a palace??? Did royalty ever enjoy its splendours, or just model makers and ice skaters?!?!

Wikipedia is your friend- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Palace

I went on the Saturday. Nice enough show, but it's too bad they still don't have a pool for marine exhibits.

I went along on the Saturday, an excellent show, most enjoyable, apart from the price of the beer. Living locally I tend to go most years, and I certainly got the impression that numbers were down this year, the aisles seemed less rammed, and the crowds were less than 5 deep at popular traders stands, not a scientific basis, just my feeling, probably the recession.

As the name suggests the major speciialism is hardcore model engineering, and it was easy to stock up on hard to get tools and materials, locomotives and traction engines of every scale just had to be admired, consumate workmanship. There was plenty for the model boater, with club stands from Broomfield Park, Blackheath, Cygnets, luton, and Victoria. Special interest groups were represented by AMBO, SWA, the Model Hydroplane Club. There were also a number of fine boat models on some of the Model Engineering Society stands.

Have attached a picture of the Blackheath MPBC stand.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,
It's not the numbers are down but they are allowing fewer trade stands as was last year so the aisles are bigger I think it's all to do with health and safety.

Now you come to mention it............. you're right! Perhaps that explains why Proops weren't there. I'm sure right too on the reason being Health & Safety!
