Shipping company house flag(?) in need of ID
« on: June 13, 2010, 08:04:51 pm »

I got this printed fabric model boat flag in a second-hand lot of several bought on eBay last month (all the others were British red, blue and white ensigns). It looks like the house flag of a shipping line, but so far I haven't been able to identify it.
I found an excellent website - http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/x~hf.html - with images of the flags for what seems to be virtually all the world's shipping companies - but haven't been able to find mine, or anything that looks like it, at least not in the list of British and American companies. It could maybe be European (I checked the lists for a few European countries, but not all) although being included with a lot of British ensigns suggests otherwise!

Any suggestions as to what this flag might be?

There is a web site containing  Lloyds book of house flags and funnels at
http://library.mysticseaport.org/initiative/ImPage.cfm?BibID=11061&ChapterId=1
(hope I have typed that in correctly)

I've found it very interesting, it's not the easiest to search as you have to wade through it, I hope it helps you
