Motors and voltage problem

My new to me Crane Barge runs off a 12v SLA battery for the main motor, the 2 small 280 size motors at the bow run off a separate smaller battery (I have no idea what)...Anyway, I came to test the boat out and found one of the two small motors had seized/fried/gone to motor heaven. I removed said motor to test it on it's own and yes, it's deceased. Looking to buy a replacement, I find that there are only two sorts widely available, those that work on a voltage from 1.5 - 3v, and those that work from 12v - 24v.
Not knowing what the original battery was, or indeed, what the two motors are, I'm in a bit of a quandary as what to buy, I was intending to use a 7.2v stick pack, but it appears that neither of the two available motors will run off one, If I buy a 3v motor, I'll probably fry it, but if I go for the 12 - 24v motor, it might not work well, any ideas folks?

Cornwall Model Boats do an MFA  RE-140/1 3-Pole DC Motor, that run on 3-9 volts.

A pair of these might do you.

Or- check out what the remaining motor runs on.  If it sounds lively on 3 volts, its a 3 volt motor. 
To run one of these on a 7.2 volt pack it just needs a resistor to limit the current down to whatever it takes on 3 volts.  R=(7.2-3)/I, or nearest available value above the answer.  To get the value for I, just measure the current on 3 volts.  Resistors have a wattage rating as well - W = (7.2-3)*I.  Again, at least the next rating above this.  Or run them via an ESC, but dont turn the wick all the way up.

It sure is, it's a Bonnie, unit construction, it reminds me very much of one of my last bikes before we went to live in Spain 10 years ago, I had to sell it   <:( Mine was a Daytona 500 though, with ball-race bearings and not bronze bushes, so in my opinion was a better engine....which has led to countless arguments over the merits of vertical twin motors..... {-)

Nice one Nige. Lovely bike. I never had a Triumph myself, although we had them in the family. My last British bike was an A10.
