Kingston Mouldings Mini Vamp Tug In Electric

Hello Fellow Boat Modellers ,
I am biulding a semi scale Kingston Mouldings Mini Vamp Tug and would like to make it electric and not steam driven , what i would like to know is what motor/prop and battery size to use .
I would like it to go slow and to scale speed so was thinking of a MFA 360 or a torpedo 500 with a gearbox ( but which one ? ) and run it of a car 7.2 or 8.4 battery ( which i have ). Its only a little run around so i dont want anything complicated and expensive as funds are short . Your help in this would really be appreciated .

hi,
   i have two of these kingston mouldings minivap hulls. one is yet to be built but the other is an electric powered steam yacht, fully finished (and for sale). i have used a "400" sized motor with an mfa gearbox (don't know the ratio but it just has two gear wheels). i am using a 30mm 3 bladed brass prop which seems to power it about right, the battery i have used is a 7.2 nimh car racepack.  although i am not one of these "everything has to be perfect" scale boys, i think you would be happy with this setup. as i always say to those types --- "what's the left stick and the speed controller for" ?. i hope this is of some use to you and good luck with the build.

If you're the gentleman who asked this question at the Doncaster show of both ourselves on the ACTion stand and then the Balne Moor MBC stand then you might save yourself further agonies of indecision by fitting the motor which we both recommended - the 2.5:1 geared MFA Torpedo 500 motor - and running it on 7.2v. This will suit the prop size shown on the plan (50mm) much better than either a direct-drive 360 or 385.
If you're not that guy then please forgive me, but it's a heck of a coincidence!

Crikey !! small world and it was :o)
Have another small boat as well so thought i`d go for the 385 direct drive on a 35mm prop , if that fails its the 2.5:1geared MFA Torpedo . As told trial and error :o/

Hi Chris , thanks for your help . I`m going to try :o/ a 385 direct drive on a 35mm prop on 6 volts .
If that fails a 2.5:1 MFA 500 torpedo o 6 volts , its all trial and more trial .
