battery for TX?
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:27:44 pm »

My little transmitter runs on 8 x AA batteries. Aside from the cost of these, I worry that the duracell bunny will die when the boat is a long way out, so i want to fit something with a bit more meat.

I can build a box that holds everything, but is it ok to run this thing with a 12volt 2.4Ah lead acid battery?

this is an old fire alarm battery, reasonably compact, and should last for a week without stopping (and I can get another for free! {-) {-) ).

On the side of the battery it says.... valve regulated, sealed lead acid type rechargeable battery.

See if you can get the charger that is fitted into the fire alarm OR burglar alarm case that goes with the battery, they are a special constant current charging type NOT yer normal Lead/Acid car/motorbike charger.

i use a bigger 7a/hour fire alarm battery in the boat itself, and have recharged that several times with my bike automate charger. The first time was when the battery was over 7 years old and flatter than my pancakes. it took several days to reach charge but has been good as gold ever since. %% %%
