i have just bought one of these incredible little E-Flite MSR heli's for flying in the house when the weather is doing its worst outside

what a cracking little thing it is too, not ideal for a raw beginner with no experience, it is not a cheap! it is however a quality device, despite the fact it is fixed pitch it flies just like a "proper" nitro collective pitch heli , flying slow circuits round the lounge is just so demanding with the rotor only inches from the wall, curtains, ceiling and lights... certainly helps focus ones concentration %%

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lOAHw_MD56g?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lOAHw_MD56g?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

love it

I just knew i had left myself wide open for that one!....

it does fly like a fully functioning collective pitch heli     upto a point!

in so much that it has a fully proportional tail rotor  so your control inputs are the same as for a collective, its good practice for flying "proper" helis  unlike the contra rotating fixed pith jobbies that dont have a rudder

and it can be flown inverted!  just turn the blades over!   :-))  (see youtube)

Please do

little suggestion. get a few spare blades (We've chipped one so far hegetrimming lol) but it hasnt affected performance at all

The deag spitfire you had was a good kit. I built it as well tho I didnt use the supplied Tx or RX and changed the leo engine for a 4 stroke OS.  Its on permanent loan to a member of the Chelmsford Model Flying club who still flies it regularly and of course I do when Im in the UK and have chance.

My pride and joy tho is my 1/5 Fokker DR1 Triplane with a real radial engine The Fokkers and most other early WW1 Aircraft had Rotary engines, not Radials, they came much later. The Rotary engine had the cylinders rotating around a fixed crankcase, hence no throttle. They did the slow down bit on landing by switching the ignition off and on, so getting the bursts of power to keep the heavy nose up on approach.

As far as I know there is no commercial manufacturer of rotary model aircraft engines but I would be interested to know if anyone knows differently

Well Boys today is the day.
I have sat here under instruction for hours and hours setting up a HK450 and she is as far as we are concerned ready to take to the air.
I have flown plenty of the smaller and larger Co-AX Helicopters but this is my first foray into the 2 blade Helicopters and following a friends advice the bigger the platform the more stable it is and the easier it is to learn on.

Well we shall see this morning. I spent a few hours on the FMS Simulator last night and will do some more today before venturing out with the new helicopter.

I also have a Align 450S that I will build but thought being a wee bit cheaper on the pocket I would start with the HK and work my way up.

Wish me luck all you fellow pilots out there.

Good luck my friend! they can be a little tricky to get setup 100% keep the rates low to start with as Moving to Collective pitch from Co-Ax is a HUGE step

I have a HK500 Im building at the moment, but Im still playing with my blade SR

Well sorry to take so long for my answer haha still getting over the shock of just how quick these helicopters move.
I did get it to Hover however my gyro might have b een faulty as even after adjustment it just started spinning round and round.
It would hover nice then like whack gyro would lose it and away she would go.
I checked with HK and they said a batch of  faulty ones were made so I might have got one of them.
Anyway not too much damage but have sent to a mate who is really up with these and he will fix and replace all thats needed and guarantee a flying Helicopter when it comes back.

will let you know in part 2 haha.

could well be a tail motor fault

No mate dont have a tail motor HK450 belt. Nope definately gyro fault mate but when it comes back will be advised as to the problem. Hovered beautifully then just snapped and then span round in complete circles good sign though a nice flat spin it was so Rotor head and balancing is set up as per how its supposed to be so will wait for his post mortem and fix up.
tks for comment.

LOL

Facepalm moment... thought you were on about the Honeybee!  That'll teach me to not just skim overthe last posts lol

Yep posibly a gyro issue or it could be the pitch of the tail blades not quite right

Okay  Essex2 finally made it. Here is my HK450 Kit now made up, and here is its Maiden Flight. Handled nice and smoothly and no tail jerking at all solid as a rock.

The Other Video is training landing gear that a young girl of believe it or not designed for her dad and myself.

Its fantastic and the pilot, which is not me is showing you on purpose how much damage it can take without damaging the Helicopter. Much better than the tennis ball setups around the place.

We have patented it and just showing you trainee pilots how effective it is as after all we do spend a lot of money on Helis dont we????

Sorry about that its me muffled fingers after being cut by the blade of a twin engined Catalina I was building last night. "xxxxx" got me but luckily not too bad still got me fingers intact just slightly cut about haa Oh the Joys of Modelling.

Armo :-))Great idea, sems to work as well. That video, very good, but if something had gone amiss then there would have been two knackered Helis!!
