Soldering pipework

Just a quick question, is a small butane powered burner (Bernzomatic brand, about the size of 3 subC batteries) hot enough to silver solder pipework on a model steam plant?
Thank you

Mick,

Whilst the flame temp will be hot enough, the limiting factor will be the rate at which heat can be applied to the pipe v heat transfer away from the joint area. You might struggle with that small burner.

I would suggest using a bigger torch, it will make the job easier and quicker.

I find that a small torch like that is fine for soldering on small items such as fittings on the end of tubes but it does not put out a big enough "quantity" of heat to heat up large objects.  Try and hold whatever you are soldering in something which does not conduct heat away. In summary, it will be useful but you will need a bigger one to solder large objects. Cheers, Ian.
