Nice one Polyman,

It should be lots of fun!

Are you going to have the bow rudders working etc.

Best of luck.

This one has been on my 'to do' list for a while now, but keeps getting further down the list. Pictures are scarce (the same ones keep appearing) and I have a small file of them. You're welcome to copies though you probably have them all by now. The Victorian Military Society magazine had a short article in issue 104 (march 2001) and I think they sell back issues. The NMM have a model but I don't think it's on display anywhere at the moment. My notes say there are a number of photos of a model (no ID) in a Model Boats magazine of 1988, but fail to say which one!

Please let us have progress pictures, even if only to get me motivated.

A very interesting thread. I'm quite hooked on the idea of doing Polythemus in 1/96 treating it essentially as a submarine. Indeed, the ship could be regarded as the first nuclear submarine, virtually submerged and capable of high speed and long(ish) range. Although never repeated, she had a long service life and must have been relatively successful. Murder to sail in I'd imagine, especially in the Med.

I wonder if anyone knows the following: Was she always grey? She's said to have been the the first grey ship, but did she sail in white in the Med? And how do you pronounce 'Polythemus'? Is it "Poly-themus", or "Poliffimus" as Charles Lawton pronounces it in that sea-chase film?

Please keep us posted on this project.

. As you say, the photos are generally the same ones reproduced over and over again.
