FOOTY sailing boats
« on: September 13, 2010, 01:40:28 pm »

Having now sampled the delights of Victoria Yacht sailing and just about getting the hang of it...... %) I would like to have a go at Footy racing.

Not wanting to build one from scratch, I was wondering if there were any RTR ones available, or at least a good kit supplier?

Thanks

I'm not a sailor, so I could be wrong, but I thought the idea of the class was that it was a cheap entry to RC sailing. This means simple construction and all the ones at my last club seemed to have sails made from supermarket carrier bags :}

If you want a kit  or ready built then look at the Graupner MicroMagic - about the same size as  footy.

I'm not a builder Barry, so need a kit at least, apart from that, all the newer ones are blown plastic or fibreglass, which I can't make from sticky back plastic and cardboard  %%

the wee nip is only 27 " long , traplet sell a kit of the wooden parts for about twenty five pounds , the plan is downloadable from traplet foc , mast and boom from b&q less than a tenner , any two channel and standard servos , sail is draughting film  & a small amount of lead for the keel weight . the aim is also a cheap to biuld  yacht that was designed to be made by school age children .  i bought mine in april which i biuld when ive nothing else to do , im upto fitting the radio stage , its really a cheap and simple biuld & well worth the small initial outlay . jon

Thanks John,
But I think at 27" long, it's a tad to big to qualify as being a 'Footy' 12" or 305mm long   :-)

No Footy kits made in the Uk, as far as I can tell... Theres seems only a styrene hull http://www.mastman.co.uk/. no idea if it's any good... the sail arrangement in the photo looks a bit suspect

I have given up in getting any simple info on making a Footy from a plan or kit. Most of the plans seem to be only suitable for people who already know how to build and sail yachts  ..

None the magazines seem interested promoting Footys

Think yourself lucky Nige as I have still not got my Victoria yet... :((

RCsail.net has some Footy info but it's mosty for Footy "insiders"...I couldn't make head or tail of most of it.... way above my head {:-{

Hi Guys
Mastman does a full kit for a footy and I think he will be at hop farm this weekend
if I remember the price is about £25 incl sails  :-)

If I am wrong I apologise

Just looked at the Mastman link, thanks.
At least the hull and deck can be bought, without having to make one from balsa or ply anyway.
Cheers
