Where do people sail? In North Yorkshire
« on: October 01, 2010, 02:23:10 pm »

Hi all,

Particularly those of you in North Yorkshire.
Just wondering where everyone sails in this area. I've been to the boating pond in Rowntree Park in York a couple of times, but was hoping to find somewhere for a quick pootle with the boat... York's a bit irritating on a busy weekend fighting through the traffic just to sail for an hour or so.

Does anyone here live in this area, if so, where do you go for an hours peaceful sailing?

Apparently the Yorkshire water reservoirs are a big no no, I rang them up to check. Struggling to find anything other than nature reserves and private land on my OS map.

Any suggestions? Surely a whole county doesn't trek all the way to the centre of York everytime they fancy a quick play?

Cheers,

I know of Bridlington MBC, absolutly fantastic place.
Depends of course how far you have to travel as there are clubs in Hull.

:-)Yorkshires a mighty fine place but boy is it big. ;)
Perhaps if you narrowed your search area down others could point you in thew right direction.

I could possibly make it Brid, but is is a bit of a trek... Depends how long I sail for I suppose.

I'm moors way on myself, was hoping to find a nice tranquil pond/lake somewhere to sail on balmy summer evenings (long way off now!) but pretty much everywhere is on private land.

I thought if I looked on OS maps I could find a bit of water near a public footpath that I could hopefully use, but I'll keep searching. Might see what village ponds have to offer, hopefully the casual dog walkers and the likes wont mind me pootling a quite electric model around.

Other than that, I was thinking about finding a quite canal path somewhere sit and unwind. Nice and relaxing, you know?
Plus I'd like to find somewhere to go, ad hoc, when the mood takes me as oppose to waiting for club events.

Until I find somewhere It'll have to be clubs and dedicated weekends by the looks of it.

To zoom you in a bit, I'm on the souther edge of the north York moors national park, near helmsley, Pickering, Kirkby moorside area.

Trying to avoid an hour and half commute to sail if I can help it!
