Club 500 battery
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:14:59 pm »

Bearing in mind the Club 500 rules, can anyone recommend an actual make and size of battery for the club boats? We race 4 x 4 minute races and some folks use a fresh battery for each heat, while others use a single high mah battery. I want to re-enter the fray next season with a brand new boat which I'll build over the winter, but it would be nice if I had the 'Perfect' battery or batteries  %%
Thanks
Nige
ps. Our club allow 7.2 6 cell race packs with unlimited Mah.......

At the risk of upsetting the moderators again Component shop do a very good 7.2v 4600mAh battery pack.

Yes, a 46Ah battery should keep a Club500 going for 4 minutes... about 1/2 hour I would say!

Component shop has a good reputation here on Mayhem, DickyD used to swear by them.  :-))

I today ran  a club 500 with a new component shop 4600mah pack, it was good, but not noticeably any better than an old 3700mah pack, but I am sure it will improve with a few cycles. Ian is now using the newer red cells, and the wire is really good quality and flexible. I got deans connectors at no extra cost.
I wanted higher mah so I dont have to keep recharging batteries between runs, and the boys can run the boats for fun for a longer time
Wher are you racing nige?

Sandwell Model Boat Club, it's at Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich as it used to be called. We have an active Club 500 and Victoria Yacht racing schedule but I never did well with the 500's, usually coming last, but I've took up Yachting as well and am doing better at that. I came second in a knock-out competition a few weeks ago  :-))
I didn't know whether to buy 4 nominal mah batteries, maybe 2200 and use one for each race, or buy 2 4600mah batteries and use one for 2 races, if you see what I mean.
