Yep I'm happy with mine. It's fine for a boat or car...I wouldn't use one in a plane though...as it's just too basic to be useful in any of my planes...

am now running five different boats off the same T5 Transmiter... never had a single problem with any of it over the last 12 months

it is very basic  but its very cheap too :-))

by basic...  it is a "4 + 1" set to use the old terminology   i.e 4 fully proportional channels and the fith channel is a "retract switch" for aircraft so only operates the servo fully up or fully down
there is no on board computer for mixing of channels and no model memory function, there is servo reverse switches but i changed a couple of rudder servos round in the different models so all the rudders worked the same direction so i didnt have to remember to reverse any switches on the tx

good value  and no problems

I am on the hunt for a new set up, and from what I keep hearing the Planet T5 seems to be the one I should be going for. but how does it compare to the cheaper Giant Cod set up?

that's what I am starting to think. Off to visit my Mum Friday and Brentford Radio Control just around the corner they have the Planet set for £45.99 so may pop buy and get one.

I suspect the electronic insides are the same.

The Planet has nicer trim, comes in a decent box, with instructions, and probably has after-sales service....

The GC comes in a white cardboard pack with no instructions, and fairly tatty trim. As standard it is 4 channel - if you want 5 you have to attach a switch to an internal socket. Interestingly, the GC set has a built-in mixer, but you aren't told about it, and have to find it for yourself.

instructions are allways usefull, will probably go for the planet as for the few pounds more it will mean I won't have to pull it apart in the future and invalidate any guaranty

Yes - I think the Giant Cod set attracts experienced R/C users who don't mind cleaning up a bit of the soldering, and need several sets, so the cost benefit is multiplied.

I find the big benefit of the GC sets to be the really low cost of receivers - at £8.90 apiece you can have one built into each of your models - I wouldn't like to do that with a Futaba .....

now that raises another question, as the receiver and transmitter are bonded together, how many receiver can be bonded to a transmiter? does this mean that when I finaly finish my first boat I can go out and just get a receiver for my second boat when it comes along, or is it a case of rebonding every time you change the receiver? I am new to this 2.4 ghz stuff so sorry if it seems a stupid question  :-)

With the GC, and I assume the Planet 5, you can bind as many receivers as you wish. With Spektrum its slightly more complicated, but provided the Rxs are the same model, you can bind as many as you want. Not sure about Futaba.

If you get one of the bigger models like the Futaba 6EX they have a 6 model memory.
And you can name each model.

Then you bind, you can also set the end adjustments on the channels.
This can be different for each model. YAY
So if you have a fleet, you only need one TX,  8)

I thought the Planet receivers were about £15? Which means you can get nearly two GC receivers for the price of one Planet. And about 5 for the price of a Futaba.  Really, the selling point for the GC is the rock bottom receiver price - for anyone who needs to have lots of receivers it's the obvious choice....

I agree, and looking at the Planet5 systems which many of our club members have, I can't see any real difference in quality. Don't know about the 'insides' though!

Hi there
I have 2 Planet TX's ( ones mine the other my sons) and we run 8 boats off them without any problems tugs, scale, fast electric and yachts, the thing we like about them is that they are cheap to buy have enough functions for most models, the receivers are the same price as a set of crystals and have nice small aerials so are easy to fit into any size model and also only run on 4 AA batteries which also seem to last for ages,a lot longer than the 8 in my other 40 MHz TX's.Binding new receivers is also a breeze and takes about 30 seconds, would have no problem recommending them.
regards Bill  :-)) :-))

Hi, I know of many people who use these sets with no problems in boats and cars.

Also worth a look at is the new breed of 2.4 sets from Etronix pulse and Core-rc.

simple 2 channel set for £39.99  :-) and 3 channel pro set with model memory etc for around £70.00   easy to  find in ebay or google to find a local supplier.

worth a look. :-))

Cheers Gary.
