spectrum DX5e transmitter change
« on: October 26, 2010, 05:48:59 pm »

Hi all
on my DX5e transmitter the left hand toggle controls my winch servo this drives a loop system around the boat which moves the main, foresail , and hopefully also the forestay sail, the toggle is on a ratchet movement and allows me to place the sails in any position, here is my problem the same toggle when moved left or right is self centering, I would like this movement to control the other sails using a servo winch arm , jib, and flying jib, is it possible to change this movement to ratchet as well so that the toggle stays in any position I place it.
the only way I have been able to control the jib and flying jib up to now was using the channel 5 switch but this is not incremental and gives me movement full left or right only can anyone help please

Geoff,

Don't think it's possible to have a ratchet on both axis of the same stick as there is only one serrated quadrant.
There's a quadrant on the vertical movement of the other, right hand, stick assembly and you could make or buy a metal strip for it.
The other possibility if you have to keep the control on the left hand stick is to remove the tension spring (a pair of fine tweezers helps).
The stick holds it's position quite well without the spring.

thanks mike
I will look into making a metal strip for the other quadrant, and trying taking the spring off, I have another question is it possible to make two servos work off of one control direction, ie left hand toggle up and down only

Yes, a "Y" splitter cable is what you need. Feed from the receiver splits to two servos.

See http://www.component-shop.co.uk/index.html. Good service, sensible postage charges.

If you want both servos to rotate in the same direction (and I suspect you do) it certainly helps to have both the same make.
I remember being confused in the past with Hi-Tec and Futaba servos rotating in opposite directions.

I thought the DX5e would come with the metal piece for using the ratchet on the other control? My DX6i did, was in a sealed bag with little screw, stupid question but it's not stuck in the box somewhere is it? Dave.  :-)

I've had two DX5e but neither had an extra metal strip.
As you say, DX6i does come with one.
