well after ALOT of work
the tiger seems to run
albeit slower on one side than the other ( so forward would send her in circles )
i belive the probem is the motors ( our of 3 of them, one is almost locked up, 2 run)
but it looks like the first gear in the slower side isnt centered right. ( but it is the metal upgrade gearset )
jobs done
-rewire controller
-build gearbox
-reassemble turret
-glue muzzle brake back
jobs to do
sort gearbox / motor problem
no nails all the wheels back on
 :embarrassed:

right after finding some of the original gears in a box down the shed ( not an easy task )
i re build both gearboxs using original plasic first gears  ( the one that meshes with the motor )
it runs much smoother now however, i have 3 motors, one that doesnt turn, one that turns slowly ( and only 1 direction ) and one that runs fine
new motors are on the cards i think

well my stepdad smashed it up in a fit of rage, along with alot of things
then it looks like he tried to repair it ( hot melting the wheels in, selotaping the gearboxs down etc)
so ive some spare parts for it lying around
like ive 2 gearboxs ( one plastic and one metal )
3 motors ( maybe another one lying around in the shed )

he's a nice bloke  <*<

but he likes to fix things by smashing them to peices

I read that info and many thanks Dicky D.

The only thing I cannot for the life of me understand is the difference money wise between say Hobby city tanks, Matarro, Heng long tanks and Tamiya Tanks.

I bought a Leopard 1/16th scale tank from Hobby city and its a great looking tank, does all the tank things like shooting, recoiling barrel, lights front and back, Crew figures included etc etc. Now I paid 175.00 for this and its a big tank, for 1/16, much bigger than even a Henglong Panther Late Version.

I know Tamiya is supposed to be the Rolls Royce of Models but for the life of me I cannot see where 1075.00 pounds equates to 175.00 dollars.

I have about 20 different Heng long tanks which I can buy upgrades for, to turn them into more realistic beasties which to some I have done and they really look the goods when finished.

I have nearly finished doing a Tiger 1 with all the brass parts,  etching parts , new gearboxes and  Motors to take all the extra weight, plus, all the other stuff like sandbags, canvas, wooden boxes with shells, correct Tank commander and other crew and this tank really looks the goods plus it has the engine sounds smokes and shoots not infrared.

Now ith all of that I would guestimate the cost to be in the vicinity of 500.00 Aus.

The Tamiya I believe is in Kit form, you then have to put it together then add any aftermarket accessories you would like to finish the Tank off - More Money. I have never owned a Tamiya Kit but then at minimnum of 725.00 pounds I probably never will.

Cheers - Armo

Everyone should have a Tamiya kit in their life, not so easy now with their astronomical prices, but you get what you pay for...and I miss my Tamiya Pershing every day   ( well....not really! ).

Yes I second that question and is it a Tamiya??? Kit. Lots more to do I see, and what was the approx costing of that Kit???

Just for interest sakes and my previous comments.

By the way you are talking in Metal I believe.

I just found a complete Tiger Metal bottom hull complete with all the rear end plus, upgraded brass gearboxes and motors for a Tiger 1 here in Australia for sale BRAND NEW 250.00 Aussie.

Now if I add that to my nearly completed Metal Tiger, with paintwork completed, all the accessories I could ever need, and I am still under the 700.00 Aussie mark???

Great Kits or not, a delight to build or not, not everyone has the skill or knowledge to build a kit at all no matter how hard they try, if you get the gist of my meaning hence RTR stuff.

Trucks - Tanks I guess after all you tank people buy Blue Suede Shoes no available in Uk I might get to try a Tamiya, haha and then my opinions might change what do ya reckon over there.

I will do a Krafty Kid imitation if he does'nt mind 'ANYONE OUT THERE GOT A CHEAP TAMIYA TANK FOR AN OLD PENSIONER' I WILL PAY FOR FREIGHT TO AUSSIE LAND'

I reckon that's about right any takers haha Perhaps a TRUCK maybe haha

Cheers :-))

Now I gotta agree that Challenger is a beauty, lucky fellah.

What kit is that or did you do it yourself putting it together and once again $$$$ I can bet.

Will you be showing her off like in a club??? or is it a Hobby that you just love like I do??

My compliments, it will look really tremendous when its finished with all you are going to do to it.

Please post pickies so I can put into my Model tank scrapbook tks.

Hi, its a 1/6 tank from Mark-1 Tanks.
I bought the tank used not so long ago, the original owner upgraded the metal tracks (the modern ones with the rubber pads so as not to rip the tarmac up!) with stronger pins, bolts and locknuts as the original ones can break.
I am doing a refit, repaint etc to it, not sure what yet but either standard green and black or maybe the Gulf War sceme and also put a GPMG and mount on the turret and other parts and accessories to make it more realistic and then weather it.
It is full RC control with operation on twin sticks, proportional engine sounds etc and turret rotation and gun elevation all operating on 6 channels.
Will be putting a smoke unit into during the work which will require the electrics, piping and cutting the upper hull for exhaust grills.
Pictures will be postted as I go along.
Many thanks for the comments!!!!

Hello Lads, I am just finishing my second Tamiya build, a Jagdpanther.
These kits are expensive....but a real pleasure to build. The instructions are easily followed, and the sound system reflects the real tank sounds.
Tamiya produce quality kits, and for my money, worth the extra .
However I have no doubt you can achieve similar results with the less expensive models.

Best wishes...Mick

Hello getemuphigh, the tank is a 1/6 scale Armortek A34 Comet MK1A.
It weighes around 85kgs (187lbs)... and is fitted with all the 'sounds' .
I treated myself last year and built the all metal kit over about six months.

I sold my motorcycles to fund the tank. So, I now transport the model on my motorcycle trailer to various Vintage/Classic shows.

I enjoyed every minute of the build....like most of our models costs can vary.
It is only recently that I have 'splashed out' and purchased the Armortek kit.
Presently I am building the Tamiya Jagdpanther....can't take it with me.

Best wishes....Mick

Hello, thanks for all your interest....it's a real shame that there are no model boat sailing facilities close to home,
or the money I invested would have spent on boats.

Never mind, I have enjoyed all manner of modeling over the years....a very pleasant and rewarding hobby.

Best wishes to all....Mick
