wireless camera system
« on: February 15, 2007, 04:51:35 pm »

I have just bought a wireless colour camera from a company called Digi-Flex. Only cost £21-99, its infra red, has an adjustable focus and only measures about an inch square. It has excellent range and gives passably clear pictures. Great service from this company by the way, I ordered it yesterday online and it fell through the door this morning.
What I would like to know is how I can enable it to record pictures onto a camcorder or some such item at the pondside. The receiver unit has an audio/video output but  the camcorders I posses do not allow for signal inputs from such a device. I have a socket on my new camcorder with an 'I link' ability so I wonder if there could be a gizmo out there which would allow me to adapt to  this. Anyone got any ideas or been up this road before?

Hi Sheerline

We have a Camera setup on a Model Severn class Lifeboat. I use an MP4 Recoder to capture the output which I can then download direst to our website. The MP4 recorder cost about £80 off ebay It has a 2.5 inch screen and has internal memory and can take SD cards as well.

Does your camcorder have any inputs? Possibly marked AV?

You could also plug it into a laptop with video capture software loaded.

Many thanks for the feedback Chaps, It looks as though Johno's idea is probably the best one so far although it means buying another bit of hardware, it certainly doesn't look as though I can use the camcorder to dump the AV into. I wonder why they don't make these things with an AV input socket?

Barrie, whats a PVR? I have been doing a bit of asking around and it seems as though there isn't anything available to plug this wireless camera unit into other than a digital video camera with AV input facility. I imagined there would be some kind of digital gizmo I could hang on it to store the footage which could then be downloaded into the computer and from there, create a DVD to show on my dvd player. Could it be there is a hole in the market for something like this?

More researching... looks as though Johno's method still holds good. I found MP4 recorders and they come with AV input leads. I obviously don't get out enough these days and technology overtook me a long way back. I suppose one of the quickest ways to get updated on current technology trends is to stop some youngster in the street and ask HIM!
Many thanks for the advice everyone.

Barrie, whats a PVR?

Personal Video recorder - replaces your VHS Video Recorder. Stores onto a computer harddisk. Much more flexible, but no help for your problem!
