Todays daft questions from me
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:48:15 am »

I have been looking at 12.0V 3700mAh NiMH SubC  from component shop.
Is anyone out in mayhem land using these batteries?
can you please give me an idea of the size and weight of them,

I am thinking of replacing the 12 volt 7 amp hour gel battery in my twin 540 powered huntsman with 2 of these, so want to know if there is room :) (the 540's are on independent controlls, and running mtroniks 25 amp escs,
I may upgrade to http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/RadioControl/viewProduct.php?ProdID=6295 at some stage, will they be OK running at 12 volt and will the 25 amp esc cope with the motor?

The dimensions and weight are given on the Component Shop Website. Click on the image and a Data Panel will open.

it doesn't when I tried it mate, running IE8 with all updates etc. tried on other battries (not NiMH) and it does.
I have just looked at the single cell sub c batteries and they seem to be around the 67g to 70 g area, as these are 1.2 volt I supose 10 of them would be needed to get to 12 volts, so looking at the 700g area. a lot less that the 2.5kg of my gel battery

Try this one then. I only use Internet Explorer in an emergency - this is via Google Chrome, but Firefox works as well.

i dont think you will find any problems fitting these in your hull , as they are certainly lighter than the gel that you already have , however you may find your esc s are not upto  the 12 volts ? the mtroniks esc s ive got will only work up to 9.6 volts ! therefore you may need a bigger esc like the ones from electronize .jon

All of my Mtroniks ESCs are rated to 12v, and all the marine ESCs listed on their website are shown as having an input rating of up to 12v. You may have a different version Jon.

Remember that these batteries deliver a lot more than 12v when freshly charged, so using an ESC rated to 12v might be a bit of a gamble.
Since I hate buying things twice, I try to give myself a fudge factor of 50%   :-))   O0
Costs a little more, but....

my mistake , hadnt read the specs properly , although my pro peak charger will only charge upto 9.6 volts ! this means i too could invest in a bigger charger and more batteries for an improvment in my models performance too !
