larry the angle of your shaft looks very steep , does the boat get up and plane or plough through the water ?

as long it get up to go thats good ! it was just with the angle of those shafts it looks as though it would push the bows down ! props perform better the closer to horizontal that they are running , most modern lifeboats have the props set into tunnels under the hull , as this not only allows a shallower angle but also protects the props ! have you though about using multibladed props yet ?

Most 'Not so modern' lifeboats had props in tunnels
watsons, oakleys etc had hull tunnel props with
plugs that could be taken out from inboard to
cut any ropes etc from the props

Hi,

My club 500 props have 2 blades on them! I don't know if this is what you mean.

Thanks

not to be a bubble burster.. but you have 0 chance of using your club 500 prop on the new shaft you purchased...

reason being simple, the club 500 has a M5 shaft with a 5mm thread so that means the prop also has a 5mm thread..... fitting to a m4 shaft = one lost prop!

it sound like you need a pair of props with a m4 threaded insert , the thread on each one is the same , but the blade rotation will be different , ie handed , one will need to spin towards the left , the other needs to spin towards the right  ( as you look from the rear of the vessel ) , you will also need to make the motors spin in oposite directions !

Hi,

Sorry its been quite a while since the last thread was left, but i am running the standard 400 motor. I am hoping to buy a prop soon. If i only have one prop, which hand does it need to be?

Thanks

i wouldn't say it really matters on a single shaft model boat, either left or right handed,.......it won't make any difference on performance what so ever.

Just a quick thought, when i paint my boat, and then put the waterline on, does it need to be laquered? Only if it isnt i can see it falling off!  >>:-(

A little tip for you Ben.

Run the trim line tape from the stern towards to bow and Continue around back to the stern.  The reason being that any joins on the Bow will come adrift and peel back.   :}

Hi Larry,
Thank you. Yes, the tape does not stick to itself very well. To position, I always run a pencil line around first as a guide for the tape.  (use a 5B pencil, not the old HB), as it makes a nice line on the paint and is easily rubbed off afterwards
(going full steam on the tug,  just the trimmings to finish her off)
