Phil,
I am just starting on the transom garage of my Tamar. Can you reveal how you got your stern door to operate so nicely? I'm after a slow smooth opening just as yours in the video.
Also, what finish have you applied to the hinges, exhausts and trim tabs?
kind regards,
Chris

Hi Guys well to answer you questions.

The paint I have used for the trim tabs and rams is called Belton Special effect Chrome spray, I spent pounds on all the types in the uk and even tried a re chrome plating kit, but with the items being so small I could not get the right effect. I found the paint on holiday in France at one of the supermarkets and its the best yet, but you can get it in the UK from http://www.ukpaints.co.uk/belton.php?subsearch=belton_spec400 Part number 323200.

The rams I have made up from brass KNS Tube.
The rear door is operated by a servo through a fulcrum arm you need 100mm of travel to get the door to open to its right lowered position, on the end of this I have used a aircraft control snake, silver soldered to a brass tube to look like the ram. To control this and make it move as you have seen I have fitted a nice little bit of kit called a servo slow from Trunigy, manly used to slow retracts for aircraft, it has 3 outputs on it which you can set.

As a example you can have the door to open fast then you can set it to close slowly, or as you have seen in my video slow both ways, I have fitted 3 on the Tamar, one on the rear door, one on the mast and the last one on the opening and closing of the top doors, they are not expensive at about £8.00 each.

If I can be of any other help then let me know, if you want to speak to me then send me a pm and I will let you have my number, thanks for the interest

thanks for the information , guess i shall be making some rams up for my build , not a lifeboat as i made a tyne class (max aitken 111 , 47 018 ) in 1/12th scale some ten years ago , im now building a couple of fairey motor cruisers , a 28 and a 31 aft cabin along with a spear ! hence the need for the rams to operate my trim tabs ! id also like to make a working screen wiper for the spear , for this ive been collecting cd laser drive mechanisms , just have to work out method of making motor shut back & forth ?

Mcat,

Great pictures of a "normal" boat house, I was concerned that if one built a Tamar Class the
builder would have to build the Padstow, or Tenby house. Although the Tenby house isn't
too odd if the pop outs on either side are left off.

Thanks for posting the pics. I like seeing the ramp and lift details.  8)

17-21,

Thanks for posting up the  "servo slow from Trunigy".
I can think of all sorts of uses for that.  :-))

Phil,
Nice to see the video of the stern deck doors opening too. It is really helpful as I have just bought a control snake  and servo for the rear door and was wondering where to have it coming through the garage moulding. Your video gives me a good idea of that thanks. I'm not planning to have the deck doors opening on mine.
Did you have to change the shape of the rectangular cutout in the perspex part supplied by Adrian (arrowed in red below) where the rear door hinges sit, to allow for movement of the ram?
