Atlantic 21 Build (Lesro Kit)
« on: January 08, 2011, 06:23:01 pm »

Dear All,

This is my first attempt at posting images - so here goes!  This is one of my lifeboats which is close to being finished.  There are still some small details to be added and the final wiring for lights to be installed.  This was a Lesro kit (which is now discontinued) but does built into a high performance model.  I will post some future images when she goes for sea trials!

Best wishes to all.

Paul

They get bigger if you click on them    :-))

But for web use (and to avoid overloading the little wires into our 'pooters), up to 1000 pixels wide is fine for JPGs.
Many image software packages have an option (sometimes buried somewhere) to set the amount of compression on JPG images... near zero compression, a 1000 pixel wide image might weigh in at 300-400 KB, which can be slow loading for many of us. With compression in the 80-85% range, images will go to < 100 KB, quite manageable.

(note: that is 80-85% of original image quality, which some software will call 15-20% compression).

I got one of these kits years ago.

I think it was the biggest waste of money i have ever spent on a model.

Very poor and weak mouldings, would be much better if you made your own vac forming from a wooden model.

I tried a jackson outboard on it and guess what, it sunk.
very glad to have got rid of it to someone who just used it for display model.

Since then i saw one that a friend built from scratch and it was great little boat.

But some love them, i hate them

like any vac formed two part hull, where you are trying to glue edge on, they just need a little care, fore thought and some strengthening gussets, and they go together well, with a little filler thrown in, and as an extra precaution, instead of making the circular sections in the sponsons solid, with mine i cut out the the centre and once all glued up i injected expanding foam into the sponsons..........it'd take a heafty weight to sink them now. lol.

but as you say, not to everyones cup of tea.

Another nice looking model Paul, well done again. I look forward to seeing it at the Alfold Charity Model Boat Show.

I must admit, your boat looks a lot betterthan mine did.

Your one looks realistic, mine just looked plastic and horrible.

you obviously have spent a lot more time and worked a lot harder getting it nice.

hope it goes well

that's the secret, phill......hard work.

if you want one that goes together like an airfix kit....then buy an airfix kit.

most kits need that bit of hard work and enthusiasm, and even a sows' ear can be turned into a silk purse, if you have patience perseverance and hard work.
