Apart from the superstructure that looks like a pretty standard LDL (low displacement length) hull, most small and medium displacement hull manufacturers are using them these days, but the largest one is around 200ft if I remember correct.

DavieTait wins the prize :-))

I have some images of a slightly different version of that pic, their haven't as far as I'm aware been any military full size versions built, so this is going to be a semi scale boat.

This vertical or near vertical bow intrigues me a little. Are ship designers kind of acknowledging that the shipbuilders of the early 20th century "got it right"? Or is it (perhaps) yet another example of some crew comfort being sacrificed in the name of hydrodynamic efficiency? Possibly OK for a warship where crew and cargo comfort was never a consideration, but having a flared bow area certainly reduces deck cargo weather damage.
It also appears to me of little brain that this sort of bow is solely concerned with the hull slicing into a head sea. But in reality, butting into a head sea is not the "norm"....your'e just as likely to be rolling the ships guts out in a beam sea.
So why is this "style" now the flavour of the month? BY.

Bryan,
The theory is that the bow cuts through the sea like an axe, (hence the name), and reduces pitching and the resultant forces on the hull and crew.
Serco Marine have one of these based in Greenock the SD Eva.

Pitching is more to do with a ships length and the periods of the waves than a hull form. No matter how well a hull "slices" through the water her buoyancy will cause the hull to rise and fall. If the "side" of a wave is as long as the ships hull then the hull will adjust to the angle of the wave. What happens when the hull topples off the wave top and into the trough is a matter for conjecture. A ship with a good "flare" will resist burying itself into the next wave. Not always successfully. But at least it wouldn't try to morph into a submarine. Personally, I'd rather remain on top of the water rather than being submerged under it. I had one experience of that you. Never again. BY

It apparently aids crew comfort rather than sacrificing it, by reducing the slamming in the same way as the Ulstein X-Bow, fuel savings as well.

I have sheeted the bottom, there's a hint of a ship there now :-)
there's a quick and dirty layer of epoxy bog to fill in a couple of hollows, only problem is the micro balloons are lumpy from the tin, I don't know how to fix that?

Started Fibre glassing the hull with Epoxy and cloth, using Boat Cote epoxy thinned with about 20 % acetone.

Interesting boat!Looks good so far. I believe I've seen a build of a axe-bow here before, someone in Holland or Denmark? Can't find it now but I'll keep searching.
Keep up the good work!
