Deck: How To Question
« on: February 06, 2011, 03:30:46 pm »

Hello Fellow Builders,
I am wondering if anyone has an easy (and I use that word loosely) way of making a template for the deck on a tug?   My little gut is a bit tight, and in the past to make a template, I have always done the cut and fit, cut and fit, method.  Broke my band saw blade yesterday doing that and need to order another one.
Figured with all the builders here, there must be an easier way.  In the end, it will have to go in in probably 2 or 3 pieces.  Anyone have a good suggestion? Thanks

The easiest way is to make it in stiff cardboard first,to get the right shape.
To get the wood to fit your hull, will require cutting it down its length or across the middle and slide in

So it is pretty much still cut a little and fit a little?  Hoped there was an easier way, but the old tried and true way still works best I guess.  Thanks guys.

With the angle of the gunwhales it would be far easier to cut the deck in half along its length.
