Various  toughts on this. If you have the time, lighten the whole bOAT as much as possible. But a MFA torpedo 850 will do with 2 x 12v 7amp batteries running at 12v 14 work a treat. MMB also do a nice 900 size motor that is fast. The key to getting the boat to plane is balance. get the boat sitting right, with the right battery/motor combination and she will do fine. Also keep in mind prop size/pitch as well. It all adds up. For the more adventurous you could go down the brushless route, but on that I am a novice!!

The Perkasa Boats dont seem to go onto plane without a fair old push. I agree with whats already been said.
I have got both 850 Torpedo and Mmb 900 motors Its my opinion that the Mmb motor is better and can be
taken beyond 12v.Word of warning most speed controllers cant handle over 12v. What ever you use battery life
will be short. If using gel cells then dont discharge to far. Prop size again is best by trial and error to you find
one that meets your needs. Enjoy. John.

Brushed or brush less, steer clear of the gel cells if you can,

My opinion
best option brush-less and li-po,
next best a 3:1 geared 700 on 18 cell Ni-mh

both with 55 mm prop
If your willing to go the brush-less route can further advise, :-)

Cheers

Ok, It will depend on the voltage you are willing to run, I would recommend 5 or 6 cell Lipo or 18 cell Nimh, Direct drive, a motor in the 500 to 700 Kv range and with at least 500 watts

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2098

as an example

An ESC in the 40-60 amp range, nothing wrong with going bigger.

Hi Ian,

Hobby King do ship to the UK, they also have a German warehouse that may be cheaper postage, another other source is Giant Cod who are UK based and sell the same motors but branded differently.

You need, Battery, 5 or 6S 5000mAH is a good size
A Li-po charger,
a 60 amp ESC capable of 6S.
Radio Control?

I'm on a really slow connection ATM I will get back to you  :-))

Cheers

Hi Ian,

Some of these things are things I have not used, the charger is same as I use bar different capabilities, the radios many members on this site appear to use and recommend from posts I've read

As far as radio and charger do you want cheap or quality? basic or advanced features with 2 channel or 4+ channel for possible extra functions,
Stock situation isn't good at Hobby King ATM, None of the right sized motors are in stock :((

So we will try Giant Cod
Motor
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/xyh4260-500kv-outrunner-p-404601.html
ESC
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/hobbywing-seaking-reverse-program-brushless-p-403647.html
Radio
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gianitcod-24ghz-4channel-mode2-transmitter-p-403779.html
Battery
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/5000mah-lipo-battery-p-405676.html
Charger
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/icharger-106bplus-250w-balancecharger-p-404527.html
( super charger , I have the 208b)

Battery to ESC connectors
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gold-connector-protector-tipple-lipos-p-405071.html

ESC to motor connectors (these may already come with the motor?)
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gold-bullet-connectors-sets-p-402343.html

You will need to get a coupler from a Hobby shop 5mm to whatever your shaft is, I think you said you already have a servo, but any standard size servo will be ok.

Let this post stand for a couple of days. Hopefully someone else may chime in with their thoughts, there may be something I've missed :embarrassed:

Cheers
Nick
