Who makes Graupner motors??
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:55:39 am »

Who makes Graupner motors? I would have thought that it would have been Graupner? I have just bought a Graupner speed 600 race to put in an MFA Piranha, and on examining the motor, the name JOHNSON is stamped into the metal case??
I have just looked at another of my Graupner 600's and there is nothing stamped on the case, just the Graupner sticker??

Who makes Graupner motors??

I would guess the company who won the contract with the lowest production costs for the contract, which would maximise profit. that just makes good buissness sence. it wouldnt suprise me if they were all made in china at 5p a motor with delivery, making a grand profit of £6.45 for a 400 size motor each  :-)) well roughly !

Guys....before the product of China or Taiwan is canned as cheap material...we must understand the economics of the master plan

European and American manufacturers needing greater profits  >>:-(....look for better economic solutions

Instead of installing a new CNC production line for miniature components in Hamburg...or Sheffield...or Detroit.....where wages & other costs are high they look to lessor cost alternatives such as China or Taiwan

I have no issue with components manufactured in these locations....as the actual quality sometimes supasses that of the original  :-)) .....Derek

I only ask because of one thing.
I always imagined Graupner to be far superior to Johnson. Johnson to me are suppliers of lower end and cheap products, I thought when paying out for a Graupner motor, I would get Graupner.....not Johnson. I'll go with the flow that Chinese manufacturers can be better than the original, I'm just a little annoyed that I received a motor made by a company that to me, rings cheap.............. <*<

We import Mabuchi 555 motors from the USA with the country of origin declared as China. Our 755 motors are also made for us in China, and the manufacturer will make them to any spec we like as long as we're prepared to accept the attendant cost. I imagine Johnson will do exactly the same - just name your price and they'll fit it. You can bet that Graupner don't buy the cheapest, though. I've always found their Speed motors to be of uniformly good quality.

You will find that with  alot of German companys only the high end of there range is mad in Germany. Take Bosh only the top of the line dishwasher is made in Germany all the rest is made in Spain.

Slightly off topic but their Steam engines are i believe Chinese. Not sure about the boilers but expect them to
be the same. John.

At work, our company go through many cordless drills.
I gut them, high end names on the case,Johnson motors inside, not the motor but the battery fails,
cheaper to buy new drill.

Correct.
recently had good quality drill die and opened up battery cases, (came with two batteries), packs are made in China and flimsy paper wrapped a wonder they lasted the warranty period.
Too dear to buy replacement packs even from overseas.

They don't list sub 'C's with tags, need 12 to fit into the 14.4V pack.
Standard sized 'C' cells are to large. <:(

I know that some company in the Czech Republic makes motors, and Astro Flight and Buhler both have factories in the USA but pretty much everything else is made in Chineesia.
