Well, Frankie Day, I think you're trying to fool us Limeys. Your profile says that you're 70 but you don't look anywhere near that age. Plus you still have all your Barnet Fair (hair).
Personally, I quite like the sound of the pedal steel. In fact, I like the sound of any slide guitar - especially the old Negro bottleneck blues, and particularly the slide on ZZ-Top's "Tush".
By the way, in the last photo, it shows "CB" on the drum kit. What does those letters stand for?

There are several musicians on here - you should fit in quite nicely.
Welcome.

These pictures of me and the band were taken 16 years ago I was 55 years old at the time. I still look like the picture you see picking my steel guitar I exercise everyday and try to take care of myself as best as possible. I love to stay on this planet as long as i can. I still have al my hair not atleast bald. the good lord gave me a full head of hair.  the CB on Jerry,s drums is the name of our old band until we changed the name to yesterdays country CB means Country Bluus. Most of the stuff we play even now is old Hank williams Ray Price Buck Owend Merl Hagert. My Steel guitar has been all over the worls I took her aboard ship with me when i weas in the navy I played on unrep details I even had my own ships band. I enjoy very much building ship models and playing music it has always been my life. I play everyday. Pmk thanks very much for your wekcomeing and reply I am honered.

With a bit a imagination that 'clag-clag-clag' sound could be nearly almost mistaken for a Merlin engine flying overhead (think Spitfire). A sound always guaranteed to make the hairs on your nape stand on end.

Hy Deckcape
Welcome aboard, great to see a fellow Country Muso. I have been playing ,singing, and writing Country songs as a pro for over 40 years, still going strong and intend to keep it that way. My two main guitars are a Gibson SJ 300, custom made in Montana and a Gibson SJ 100 that I use for backup guitar. Merle, Hank, Tom T Hall, Ray Price, my kinda Country.  My Model boats are the older 60,s type and steam  Tugs, ( I worked on that them as a lad) but I run them on electric. Inshore fishing boats, Trawlers ect, and the Classic Clyde Puffer,s.
Check out my website,,, that reminds me I will have to update it,,,  as my mate PMK say,s, there are a few muso,s on here, by the way he aint a bad guitar player either :-))

I used to play bottleneck/slide guitar in a 60's blues band, but I never quite figured out how a pedal-steel works. I've got the metal steel and finger-picks bits sorted in my head, but if it's the pedal that does the volume "swell" sound then is there more than one pedal and, if so, why? I'd really like to know.
As PMK might say, "c'mon, Frankie dude - you're The Man".
BTW did anyone see B J Cole on TV a couple of days ago, telling how he came to put the pedal-steel backing on Elton John's "Tiny Dancer"? Quite fascinating.

Hy Dave
Never took you for a blue,s man. :-)) On the Pedal steel you have 3/5 pedals on the floor attached to the unit, these work a set of springs and levers that  stretch the strings, you then have two levers that sit either side of your knee, by moving the knee from left to right you also bend the string,s, you then have a volume swell pedal on the floor worked by the opposite foot %%. Had a go one time, could,nt get a note out it, but knitted a lovely jumper {-). Thats the basic,s.
Worked a couple of times with BJ Cole back in the late 80,s early 90,s at some of the big Country Festival,s.

Ahoy
thanks fellas for your replies and the you tube, the steel guitar is a hard instrument to master i been playing steel now for moe then 50 years. I started out on a double kneck Fender Steingmaster, 8 string non pedal steel. the basics and the only way to play it is bar slants no pedals in those days.  For an extra lift before the event of the pedal was string bends useing the bar hand.  Then a lot of steel players even myself use to take a drill and make holes on the peghead and run coat hanger wire through the peg head onto each string and used a sewing machine knee lever for a a changer. the tuneings we used was C6th, A6th, E13th,E9th. or B11th. I used the C6th with a A7th tuneing on kneck No. 1 on kneck No. 2 I used the high E13th. Nowdays with the great jimmy Day and Buddy Emmons they split the pedals ans envented th modern day steel guitar as we know today. I have 4 Steels. I have a 1959 Sho- Bud double 8 string kneck simular to the lat jimmy days. I have a 1972 MSA. double kneck. 1962 Fender 1000 single kneck 8 string with 8 floor pedals all sunburst. and my 1965 Dekley double 10 string E9th chromatic on the first kneck the rear kneck is E13th I have 10 floor pedals 6 knee levers, enough to keep me busy for the rest of my life. That Telecaster is a Beautiful guitar and its worth its weight in gold the best thing in its not made in Mexico or Korea. So hang on to it. I have some more pix I will post I have to dif them up. I have a couple more shows to do next week I will post them as well. Again thanks fellas for your wonderfull replys and welcomeing to this wonderfull forum of great fellas.

I love Rush too, 2112 has to be one of my favourite albums though as I've aged my tastes seem to have got a little heavier so I tend to spend a lot of time listening to stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOWB6rmSd4I , though if I need to mellow out I might dip into this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTVA4g6MWZA

...I have to utilize the few brain cells left after the 70s, I think it was 74 or 75 at my school and the had just release Fly By Night, abit far to go for me as down in Devon which as we all know is the cultural centre of the universe for good gigs...anyway all is in limbo as trying to sell and go back to the Great White North....
My tastes these days go to different extremes, the new Foo Fighters is quite good, as is Fleet Foxes, but being a home boy, The Tragically Hip rule for us donut eaters {-)

Well thank you Franklin. I record directly off the board and a friend did the video taping that I edited and added the audio track.
Just something else to keep me busy when I'm not building boats. Music is my job, wish it was a hobby so I can take a break.
Everyone in the band has over 40 years of music background. We played the classics when they were new. LOL!

I'm a keys man, never really got on with stringed instruments. Those keys have been a living - more or less - for the past, er, nearly 40 years. No gigs or concerts these days, I got fed up with the travelling and especially being stuck on motorways.

Here's a now and then comparison!

I have retired from Organ servicing but here's a snap of one of my repairs in my workshop. This is the Hammond organ that was used on the record  'Video killed the Radio star'.

I don't profess to be able to play that well but the repairs put bread on the table for 30 years.  :-))  I like the condition of your T400 and Leslie speaker. Brings back memories.

Looking good there my man, At first in looking at you in your younger days I thought you were Darrel Hooper of the old 60,s band The Seeds, I agree its getting hard to get gigs nowdays you can thank Kareoke and hip hop rap stuff. they are you successors to bands. same thing out here in Ohio USA. most of these young kids never seen or know what a steelguitar is.. this one young little girs in her early 20,s was hipnotised by the sweet sound of the steel when the tune was finisghed she walked over to me and said what is that, I told her it is a ironing board LOLLllllllllllllllllllll she sais Ohhhhhh okay. it sure sounds good.. Yes sir I agree its getting harder most od our gigs are because of our following and last performances. I guess thats the only credibility we have. any way very nice keyboards you have dont quit you never know it might spark up again.

Nice B2 Kenny, Just wondering about the Organ to the Right, I thought it was an A100 but it hasn't the full pedal board
