Mersey class kit?
« on: May 21, 2011, 07:49:49 pm »

I asked this question not long ago on a different thread so it could have been missed so I'll ask again. As a Scarborough man born and bred I would like to know if there is a kit for a Mersey class lifeboat currently based there?

no full kit
but you can get the hull and superstruture from models by design.

I had one when it was made by another company the hull was good but was overly impressed by the superstructure it is usable though

Was that unusable or unstable I'm presuming unstable.

I think what Colin Is saying was that the superstructure was not very good quality but usable, the Models By Design mouldings are superb, I have a set......

Usable! Ah sorry the eyes are playing up. Building a better, lighter superstructure from styrene shouldn't be problem.

No need, as I have just said the mouldings are far superior to what they used to be when another company manufactured them....

Captain Morgan has clouded my vision slightly. Models by design you say I'll keep that in mind. Thanks guys.

One more thing. The trailer and the submersible tractor, I have seen models of them. Any kits?

I've built a 1/12 Mersey using the Models By Design hull and superstructure, they're of excellent quality and highly recommended.

The launch tractors and carriages are made by Clayton Engineering, they may be able to help you with details and information, regards, Dave.  :-))

It would only be for display purposes.

Have you seen the monster Mersey built by Mike Pendlebury, including the tractor and carriage?

I would probably go for 1:12 scale or whatever is the common scale for lifeboats.

I'd go for 1/12 as there's a ready supply of fittings out there to buy off the shelf, plans available from RNLI in Poole.  Dave.  :-))
