Hi
life got in the way and I only returned to work on the boat today. In the end I took a trip to Scale Hobbies in Skelmersdale and got what I needed to kit her out. I took the boat and the owner looked her over, he said the prop and shaft were ok (I have a RC already), and then sold me the following: metronik vision 500 burshed motor, mount, cables, JP brushed speed controller 50 amp +rev, Saturn 3kg servo, Nimh 8.4v SC-3300H flat battery, suitable charger, small sundries. Along with that lot I got a fair bit of advice too - so

.
If I'm not happy with the end performance I can upgrade later and use the brushed stuff for my crane barge - so no waste.
I have met with two problems so far today
1. The little grub screw for the prop/motor connection is missing -

hmmm - deep toolshed search called for - or 36 mile round trip to Skem'.
2. The old wooden beam that the IC engine was mounted on was not only screwed in but also glued and then secretly nailed in - it's going nowhere. It was in the way of the motor lining up with the prop so much removing of wood with a dremmel type tool was called for - and of course it wasn't softwood - oh no.

So now I can get it in, the mount holes are not actually over the beam but hang outside of it - so now I'll have to add some wood and glue it in.
It's trickier than I thought this modelling business - I think I need some more appropriate tools too. My planned christmas start to a build of the Kalakala is looking more daunting now, but never mind I'm making progress.
