What's this model please and what is it worth
« on: June 12, 2011, 05:13:43 pm »

I saw this on a car boot sale today.

He was asking £450 ono and it came complete with 3 motors speed controllers ( although I don't know whether they were esc's as I didn't want to get it out the box and tx/rx which looked like 40 meg.

does anyone know who's kit it was and what it's worth..looked very nicely made and good paint job..I took his phone number for if it's worth it.

It is a Graupner Weisel, worth about £250-00 or a little more if a really good model.

Actually the Weisel kit is priced at £375 ( since that's what i paid a few years ago new)  £450 is not an unreasonable price, but I'm not sure if the kit has come down in price since i brought it. in which case £300 is a more reasonable price but should the kit still be at the £375 mark then its easily worth £400-450 RTR

You must remember that you have to purchase the two guns for the boat separately and there £50 each, which bumps up the kits price.

The completed kits sells for about £250-00, much the same as the Schutze Minesweeper.
They are both extremely underrated and were never popular models.
I have 2 x Schutze operational and a Weisal kit.
AModelWorld are selling these for £175-00

Life sucks eh, ~Weisel £217 + £38 per 40mm Borfors guns total cost for the whole kit £300 uff but i guess that's what happens prices go down on some items eventually. Its still unbuilt ( on my list of things to do!)

However i will be doing mine like this rather then the official Weisel in white, it looks wrong! (i took these photos of a clubs friends model)

No one seems to have costed in motors, speed controllers and radio. It seems to me that that may be a highish, but not completely unreasonable price for that boat...

You need to add the cost of motors, ESC's servo, paint, glue, solder, bits'n'pieces

And it's BUILT !

Everyone seems to be saying the finished model should be worth a lot less than the kit parts wheras (IMHO) the builders time must be worth a tiny amount of money. Selling a model boat can be heartbreaking at the best of times but to have the world say that all your effort has actually made the box of bits worth less makes it even harder.

If you're a sailer (sailor?) then a built boat is worth more...

If you're a builder, then a built boat is worth less....

To be honest i disagree with all of that on value.

A boats value is only worth to the builder what time you put into it, so really its priceless, where as to a buyer its only worth how much your prepared to part with.

I sold a second hand one of these a couple of months ago, with carry case for £295. The guns that are £50 are resin upgrade kits, the model comes with blow molded and injection molded guns as standard.
Selling prices for models vary by region, some areas have more disposable income than others, we have sold stuff in Bristol for almost twice what we tried to sell stuff locally. The buyer was amazed that we could not sell the item locally at what he paid for it. you could try selling on Ebay and draw out the torture for 5 to 10 days, until the final insult is dealt to you. My advice, sell amongs your local club or at specialised bring and buys, such as Alfold ( unless its raining!).

It needs disassembling, stripping down and starting again. And is that a water pump I see inside, with two nozzles poking out either side of the bow?  Looks like it was used as a fireboat at some point...
