Need advice with my first boat 37 inch perkasa
« on: June 30, 2011, 09:45:13 pm »

Hello all. This is my first post so be gentle! :)

I have managed to get a 37" perkasa with a fibreglass hull from fleabay. Been thinking about getting a boat for a while and decided to take the plunge. I am really pleased I did so. I will post pictures soon. Currently, the boat needs some power sorted out. The previous motor a stingray 500 has had it so I have been looking for replacements.

I have never had a boat before but I have had a few planes etc. So I have lipo's ready in parellel or series. Any recommendations on the type of motor I need? I think the prop is a direct set up with a universal coupling. The prop is around 45mm and brass.

I was thinking about either a 850 torpedo motor or perhaps one of marks BB900 motors. Any thoughts?

I am worried about which speed controller to get as currently there is no water cooling set up in the boat???

I was hoping to skip that and run brushed motors with maybe a fan. Does that sound ok?

Also, I am not sure how to check the prop to see if it is up to the job. How do I check it? Oil it etc?

Dave at Action can supply the MMb 900 and a suitable esc. To lube a prop shaft its best to remove it to lube
the bearings. I use waterproof boat grease. But a search will come up with many suggestions on Mayhem
Again a mayhem search will give many thoughts on brushless. John

Hi,
My mate is building a 49 inch Perkasa and is using brushless motors which you are no doubt familiar with as a flyer. He tried various brushed motors but they would not lift the boats bow out of the water as he wanted. He is also using lipo batteries. If you are interested I can find out which motors he selected. All I know is that he got them from Giant Cod.

                                                                                                                                           Regards Andy (balders)
