speed controller / radio
« on: July 03, 2011, 01:51:15 pm »

Hi all
My question is this . Will these new  electronic speed controllers work with any radio set . I have a 27 meg accoms at the moment and a viper esc that was given to me however I get no control on the motor( to be fair I think the esc was suspect when i received it) but before I buy a new one, wanted to check if they will work with my radio kit
As always thanks in advanced for any help.

Please remember that Mtroniks do offer a repair service. Which is cheaper than buying a new one. Make sure
youve programmed it correctly. Two viper 20s that i had programmed by putting the throttle into reverse first
then foreward. No probs as just required motor wires reversing.John.

Unless its a really old TX RX setup with strange connectors but even then it should be just a case of changing the plugs

like this old Acoms I found

Not necessarily. Some old radios e.g. Futaba M Series, Simprop had a signal pulse width of 1.3ms at neutral c/w the almost universal modern standard of 1.5 - 1.52ms, and no current ESC would work with one of those sets. If your radio is a Futaba with three wires to the servos and a plug shell which contains little brass sockets (as opposed to 3 brass pins which stick out of it) then a modern ESC should be OK. If you're not sure then best to hand it in at the nearest Police Station, apologize profusely and you might get off with a caution................. If it's an ACOMS then better to leave it by the roadside, at night and somewhere quiet, as there are severe penalties for owning one of those.  %)
A brand new 5 channel 2.4GHz set will give you change from forty quid.
