Stanchions - what to use
« on: July 12, 2011, 12:39:15 pm »

I am building a type 42 destroyer, (52") and have reached the stage where I will soon be needing to fit deck stanchions. A formidable number are required, and looking at what is available on-line - I can anticipate bankruptcy soon!!
Any ideas of suitable alternatives I can use?
Your thoughts much appreciated.

I take it at 52 inches you are working in 1/96 scale - if so I use John haynes  stanchions - brass etched come in sheets of
200 and you will probably need 2 sheets.

As geoff says John Haynes are very good quality bras etched sheets but you could always consider giving barry of sirmar an order now that he has got Sirmar back and running.  I would guess any support he gets from orders will help get the business up to speed.

hi Purgatory  Don’t Spoil the Ship for a Ha’penny’s Worth o’ Ta

James Lane of Display Models
30, Broadway Blyth Northumberland NE24 2PP
He makes precision formed brass stanchions in 1/96 scale at 15p each and you will need approx 150 for the mane deck and then use John Haynes brass etched stanchions for the upper works
have a look at this it may help

i know you mentioned you don't want the expense to go though the roof.... these are rather expensive but do look rather nice..

i have used these Stanchions on my latest build... there turned single 2 Hole Stanchions that are 11mm High, just about right for 1:96 Scale

treeboa hi there

If you are referring to the type 42 build which I did as being a kit - sorry it isnt - its about 90% scratch built - some fittings were from Sirmar and some from James Laing, John Haynes

What a fantastic response to my enquiry :-)) Thank you everyone for your information.
Mind you, the pictures of Johns build makes my attempts seem very amateur :((
Now, shall I start again, or carry on? :embarrassed:
