Noob needs help with a battery
« on: July 19, 2011, 07:55:07 pm »

Hi there. I have a boat that needs a 9.6v battery.

I currently have a 800mah battery in however performance is poor. I upgraded batteries with my other boats and the improvement is astounding - these however were 7.2v batteries which seem to be more available. These also were 6 cell 3x2 arrangement which seem to be quite standard. In my other boat i need a 8 cell block 2x2x2 which I can't find anywhere.

I really could use any wise advice of where I am able to get an uprgraded battery for this boat. I have spent hours searcing the web but to no real avail.

P.s had 1800mah battery before getting 4600mah battery in my other boats hence thinking the better the battery the better the performance. Space is tight in my 9.6v boat so be good to have 8 cell battery. It's either that or I start modifying the battery compartment ( saws included)

PPs which is better nich or nicd? - are they compatible?- how high do they both go in regards to mah?

Thanks for your time

They can be considered equivalent, good job, since NiCad are much harder to come by nowadays, and NiMH are relatively common.  Packs are interchangeable, cells within a pack are not.  Charge/discharge characteristics are different enough to be a pain if they get mixed.
The more mAH the better from the viewpoint of longer running (=bigger fuel tank).  Performance improvement depends on how well they can deliver the stored energy (fuel analogy, you also need a bigger fuel pump and fuel pipe, if the battery has a top current limit and you find it, thats all you are going to get)

Component Shop, good place to start looking.
