Cornwall Model boats have them geared down to 1640 :1
More expensive but really slow.
I have used the micro 500:1 for gun elevation and 1000:1 for radars on my "Dorina"  beautifully made.

if your using the 2mm shaft type motors like this:

the shafts can be joined with a peice wire sheath. if ya take an odinary 240v wire or something with that diameter strip it but dont cut along the length apply it to the shafts with a push fit and it holds fine. ive used this method for prop shafts so itl definately work for a radar.

heres a solution a 3v 30rpm gear head motor

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/3V-30RPM-Torque-Gear-Box-Motor-New-/320681822577?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaa204971

If you look around ..you will find that most radars turn on average 30rpm..on the low side 25rpm..on the highside 40rpm..

Thers a few ways to hook it up ..silicon fuel line ,electrical insulation as mentioned,
If your crafty and have a friend that has a lathe..a simple coupling would take about 10m's to whip out ..with a grub screw..
