Water sprayer on boat
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:30:49 am »

Hi guys just a question as I'm confussed I want to fit a water sprayer in my boat but hide it in side a gun turret I get that you run a small motor to pump the water and spray it what I don't understand is can you run a tube from under the boat to the motor so it's getting water from the lake or do u have to run a tank in side the boat? Also would you need a esc to run this or is there another way, and do u have to run a fire hydrant to do this or would a piece of brass do the job just thinking of ways I can hide it

Hi, you need to fit a tube through your hull to get water from the lake. its quite easy to do, just depends how you want it to look. there are many water pickups on the market that speed boats use to cool down the ESC and motor, but these can also be used to pickup the water for your water cannon. you can run the motor off of an ESC, but a cheaper option is to use a micro servo and a micro switch. that way when you flick a switch, or push a button it fmoves the servo which closes or opens the micro switch and completes the circuit to operate the water pump. hope this helps.

Tjone27 what kind of water cannon are you running? I don't no either to buy a hydrant or not as it's going to be hidden and hydrants are quite big I get the bigger brass pipe I'd use  you would get more volume but wouldn't go far but the thinner the brass pipe u use get less volume but further it will go

ive got the simple graupner  its only about £7, but as its going to be hidden, i would just make your own of some brass pipe. the fire monitor that i have has a 2mm pipe(i think or there abouts) and then you glue a cap on the end which is like a funnel, so it forces the water through a smaller hole giving it the range and it pumps a fair bit of water. maybe do some testing as to which pipe works better so you get the best range and amount. hope this helps.

I don't want to be a Killjoy but please be aware that it's dangerous to spray lake water onto the people on the shore line.

We do not know what is in the water. Our boat club was informed that Rats frequented the lake and have forbidden water hoses on boats.

Hope this doesn't spoil your project

I don't want to be a Killjoy either but spraying kids at the lake side in summer is one thing but twice I've seen one model boater
( at the Warwick show ) think it was really funny to spray long sustained streams of water at the seated public and watch jump up
 and run for cover.

 ... what an idiot!  >:-o

It's not as such to spray people but just for effect

Better to say lake water can be dangerous Quite right to sound a cautionary note but important to keep things in perspective. There are around 50 - 60 reported cases of Weil's disease per year with 2 - 3 deaths. This compared with at least 400 drownings.

The disease (also known as Leptospirosis) is usually relatively mild and treatable with anti-biotics. It is most commonly caught through skin abrasion. If we want to avoid the risk altogether, it will be necessary to ban all water sports in fresh water (and farming)!

I agree with you to a point, however

As a person who is actively involved in out door swimming in most major lakes and a few rivers in The United Kingdom it should be pointed out that rats frequent pretty well most waters, they can carry Weil's disease, however in my 15 years involvement I have Never actually heard of any of our swimmers actually getting ill by swimming in far greater volumes of water than is sprayed from a model boat,  that said I agree that People should not be sprayed, however using the hose within the confines of the pond should present No Problem at all.. and personally I would carry on regardless.

It would be interesting to know how many modelers sail their boats , take them out of the water and then eat food, smoke a cig, scratch their face without washing their hands..I have seen it at every event , club I have been to..Just a thought.. 8)
