Prop preference
« on: August 30, 2011, 04:39:49 pm »

Hello folks can anyone please help with opinion of which may be the better props choosing between Raboesch or Rivabo?
( I am aware Prop Shop are infamous for their quality)

                                            Regards, Tony.

No real difference really, Rivabo seems to be a wee bit cheaper but Raboesch has more range to choose from. Take your pick :-)

Being new to the forum & also to model boat building I too would like to learn more about props & motor & prop combinations. Is there anywhere on the forum or anywhere for that matter where a newbie like me could find that kind of information in a reasonably condensed packet bearing in mind most people have their own preferences. That sure would be  a big help to dumb & dumber (me). I can see where a lot of members are always trying different props & motor combinations, which could get expensive in hurry, I hope someone can at least help a little bit. ( I have for instance noticed that you use a special prop for use in kort nozzles, am I correct ??) Mick B.

Hi MickB, if you go to the Cornwall model boats website and open the links to propellers it gives you the various types
and the application for the numerous propellers model boaters use.

Thanks John, I have dealt with Martin & cornwall, nice fellow, but the props I asked for I did not get, so that led me to ask the question about props in general.

Hi Mick

Yes, you are correct. The Kort propellers have a more flattened tip to rotate inside the Kort drum.

Could you please elaborate on that? I've just read in another forum that Prop Shop is considered to be a "gold standard" above Raboesch and Rivabo.

(I am thinking about the right propellers for the boat that is at the beginning stage of the build)

Prop Shop props are cast, profiled and finished like the real size props.
The other props have almost flat brass sheet for blades.

thank you - that's what I thought :)

Currently the prop shop propellers is my tentative selection for my scale speedboat not only because of quality but also a higher pitch compared to props from Rabousch.

Where can I find tech specs for Rivabo props? I mean pitch and max rpm (for ~40mm diameter 3-blades).

What I meant to say DickyD was Martin @ Westbourne & Malcolm @ Cornwall (also Sam @ Cornwall) Nice people to deal with, I am at present waiting some bits from Westbourne.I have had good service from both companies, but ACTion wins hands down, I don't know how Dave does it but don't stop. Mick B.
