Help me decide please...
« on: September 08, 2011, 06:36:57 pm »

I have a Planet 5 with about 7 receivers which I bought because the availability of the receivers for my Esky 2.4 Tx was in doubt at the time, in turns out they are freely available but cost about £18 each, whereas the Planet Rx's cost about £14. I have about 20 boats with the Esky receivers in.

So I have 2 completely different 2.4ghz set-ups which work just fine, no problems with either except the cost of the receivers, and the fact that I have to take 2 x trannies to the pool and sometimes forget one...... :embarrassed:

Seeing that Orange receivers are now widely available for between £5 - £7 for the better quality Spektrum range...I am wishing that I had just one transmitter and the same receiver in every boat. I was quite willing to buy a DX5i which appears to be a simple to use unit with similar functions that the other 2 have but.....

I am being persuaded by a friend, that I actually need a DX8i, nothing less. Now, I have experience of these computer trannies, I owned a Futaba 6EX was it? Anyway, I ended up having to take the manual to the flying field to remind me how to change from one model to another, how to use expotential etc etc. I found it very complicated to be honest.

My friend insists that if I buy a DX8i, it's the only tranny I'll ever need for the foreseeable future, it's all bells and whistles and is so easy to set up and use, much easier he says than the DX7 and the DX6....he never mentioned the lowly DX5.....

OK, so it remembers 100's of models settings, but all I do is go forward, backward, left and right, oh and I use a 3rd channel to fire the squirter on my fireboat to soak the legs of unsuspecting bystanders....

So, in your opinion, is the DX8i the one to buy, do I actually NEED a computer controlled thingamajig...??? It would be very nice to have just one transmitter and identical (Cheap) receivers in ALL my models......what to do, what to do......

Get a DX6i, will save the settings on 10 models and easy to use.

+1 DX6i but remember to get the one with self centring kit pre installed, or a kit to do it, as these are primarliy for rc planes and heli. Its easy to use, being able to set servo travel and endpoints is great, and 10 model memory, and horizon hobby after sales service is superb. If buying 2nd hand ensure the recall is done

However, if you want budget, you really cant go wrong with the 6 channel turborix set, rx's are dirt cheap, look at giantcod for uk seller rather than china, inspite of all the negative comments they are real good, and 2 channels are proportional, so for turning monitors etc they are ideal . I have been using two of these for a number of boats, not computer sets, never let me down, I operate lights, smoke units, sound units etc etc :-)), and use a DX6i for helicopters and planes,  :-))
