Mtronics Plug&Play V Radiolink T4U
« on: September 09, 2011, 04:24:55 pm »

My mtronics P&P with a 2.4 T4U Rx is not controllable.
It is in a Dickie tug conversion for my Grandson
Switch on by the book
Nothing -Good
Push throttle forward -Nothing
Pull it back - Motor turns
After this it will run ahead by pulling the stick back
but slowly.
If I put a Spectrum Rx in it works fine.
Another member of our association has the same setup in a
small fishing boat which will only work by using the stick in reverse.
Servo reverses don't do anything to ESC's
Is there some sort of incompatibility with T4U's

Any Ideas Guys?

Ned,

I too have had difficulties with the T4U receiver, although mine was with a Thunder Tiger ESC.    Firstly the motor ran in reverse but when switching the relevant servo reverse it went full speed without any control.     Moving the throttle lever full ahead to full reverse brougt it under correct speed control  and I sailed like that for a few months.       The receiver then "gave up the ghost" with no control of throttle or rudder.     I am now using a Spectrum - compatable Orange RX with my DX5e transmitter with the same TT ESC which works far better     Only problem now is that the throttle takes 10 tp 20 seconds to come to life, while the rudder always "binds" with the TX in 2 seconds.

I suspect the T4U RX only works perfectly with certain ESCs whech we have not found yet.

They work perfectly with my Mtroniks - various ratings :-)) :-) :-)) I've not had any problems at all with ESCs and T4U Rxs. I use ACTion and Mtroniks ESCs :} :}  They also work with three different makes of Brushless ESCs :-)) :-)) ;) ;)

Have you tried it on a different channel in the Rx ( for test purposes)?

The trick with the Radiolink T4U is to wiggle the lefthand stick vertically up
and down to override the start-up failsafe,  before switching on the receiver.

The failsafe is intended for aircraft use where it will ensure that the throttle
is fully closed at receiver switch on.

A lot of ESCs assume that whatever setting they sense at switch on
will be taken as throttle closed and may lead to 'funny' throttle responses.  >>:-(

If the ESC doesn't reset itself at startup then the failsafe position corresponds to full reverse!  :embarrassed:

Not tried a different channel Martin but I have four receivers and I get the same response
It is only with the Plug&Play ESC (the one with no setup button)
I need the throttle on chann 3 as I have put restrictor discs on the Tx
Left hand stick up and down only
Right hand Left/right
It's to make it simple to teach a four year old basic control
I think there was a thread on the forum about the problem but I can't find it.
I shall just have to get a ordinary mtronics esc and use the plug&play in something with an orange spektrum rx

Hi Richard
I'll try that
I have had the motor starting up as soon as I switch on
with the stick in centre position.
I have also found that sometimes when it has been sat idle for a few minutes
I push the stick forwards and everything works fine

i had issues with planet receivers and 2 mtroniks esc`s on a twin motor baitboat, gave up in the end and changed it back to 40mhz, however on a triple shaft with one mtroniks esc on an eboat conversion i have no problems, only thing i have found is shes a bit course on the initial spool up from stationary

Have you sent an email to Mtroniks?
They must know of the issue...

If you have an issue with the T4U this is the place to ask - http://www.giantcod.co.uk/forum/

There are experts there like Phil_G, who examine the signals passing between the different units, can give you a definitive technical explanation of what is happening, and can probably knock up a little PIC unit to mod the signal if necessary.

I am sure there are similar places for the Planet system as well...

Sounds like both are working to opposite ends of the acceptable limits, quite possibly with a different set of end users in mind.

I've just put all the radio gear into my springer build to test the drive train
With a Mtronics 20A I've had the same problem
Stick wiggling cures it :-)) :-))
